[CanYoAssDigIt] Fwd: [progressive] brush clearing OF A PRESIDENT movie now on GoogleVideo

I think that it's scandalous that somebody has put this piece of trash up on the web to corrupt weak minds with. I strongly advise everybody to not watch this.  To watch it would be wrong. Terribly, terribly wrong.

It seems that this video is one and a half hours long. I couldn't even get a minute into it, because it kept pausing. In any case, I would caution people against posting stuff that has to do with the death of the president in any way. That's the kind of stuff that the FBI is questioning high school students about. I would steer clear of this subject.

see this before Bush declares watching it a terrorist act...

[CanYoAssDigIt] Re: [progressive] Young, Cold and for Sale: BOB HERBERT ; Run, Barack, Run: DAVID BROOKS +

When I saw the heading "Young, Cold, and for Sale" I thought that was the story about Barack Obama.

So New York Times writers support him as much as Time Magazine does. It looks like the fix is in, doesn't it?  I think all the editors and opinion writers for Time and the NYTimes on this list should vote for him.  The rest of us shouldn't and David Brooks gives many, many excellent reasons not to.

He does not demonize his opponents and tells audiences that he does not think George Bush is a bad man.

Now come on, if he doesn't think Dubya is bad, who does he think is?  Ming the Merciless?  Lex Luthor?  Some other imaginary bad person?  Chavez smelled the sulfer, and billions agreed that they smelled it too. I guess everything smells like roses to Obama.  Clearly, that powers that be want a guy like him in - no war crimes trials, no lobbying reform... perhaps a continuation of the war in Iraq, and no relief for poor and working people?  Has Obama said anything about these issues? I haven't seen the evidence.

He has a compulsive tendency to see both sides of any issue. Joe Klein of Time counted 50 instances of extremely judicious on-the-one-hand-on the-other-hand formulations in the book. He seems like the guy who spends his first 15 minutes at a restaurant debating the relative merits of fish versus meat.

The opinion formers quote each other, isn't that cute?  But of more concern... I can hear the chants being reprised already...."flip...flop....flip....flop...." And for good reason. I don't see any evidence that he stands for anything.

During our talk, I reminded Obama that at some level politics is about power, not conversation. He pointed out that he'd risen from nothing to national prominence in a few years so he knew something about acquiring power, but he kept returning to his mode, which is conversation, deliberation and reconciliation.

You know how consensus is really built in politics?  With lots and lots of horsetrading.  Team Reagan put on a tough front, but behind the scenes they were making deals like crazy.  "The pigs were really feeding at the trough," said David Stockman.  This is clearly Obama's starting point, without even the tough talk.

The contemporary guru he cites most is Warren Buffett.

That's pretty telling, isn't it?  There are worse takeover billionaires you could admire, but there are other political, economic and philisophical thinkers out there you could be studying besides takeover billionaires.

He, conceptually, welcomes free trade and thinks the U.S. may have no choice but to improvise and slog it out in Iraq.

Ah, so he does, kinda, sorta, take a stand on a couple of issues, and comes down on the wrong side.  I presume that he doesn't mean free trade, but rather the "free" trade that Clinton, Bush, and the billionaires they serve, support.

He is one of those progressives, like Gordon Brown in Britain, who is thinking about the challenges of globalization outside the normal cliches.

I wish that he wouldn't insult us by saying Obama is progressive.  Has the word lost all meaning?

Consider Brown for example:
"Brown has strongly supported a number of aspects of US foreign policy, notably by voting for the invasions of Afghanistan in 2001 and Iraq in 2003."  (Wikipedia).

Now we are getting to the gist of it. You are a weighty and significant "progressive if you think outside the normal cliches - that is, if you support the Bush agenda uncritically.

Brooks probably daydreams of a world where Gordon Brown plays poodle to Barach Obama.

this is how Omar Waraich puts it on the Counterpunch webside:

"[Blair's] critics, a vast multitude , are not entirely wrong about the prime minister. After all, it's plain from just glancing at the guy that he now embodies the ruin that he has supervised. Cracks have formed on his skin. That seraphic smile no longer cleaves his face. His hair has diminished in direct proportion to his popularity; what remains has grizzled.

"But there is much to be appreciated, too. Consider the alternative. Under chancellor of the exchequer Gordon Brown -- the patient successor to be -- it is unlikely that policies will alter course. Brown, we are assured, "will be absolutely New Labour to his fingertips and also, incidentally, a very strong supporter of the transatlantic relationship." As one MP has described the syzygy, "Blair and Brown are two cheeks of the same arse." There is, however, one principal difference: Brown has all the passion and affect of an ashtray. With Blair, you are at least guaranteed the odd moment of mirth."

I find much of this hauntingly familiar, and not at all reassuing.  Will Obama prove to be a matching cheek to Bush on the same presidential arse?

Please, let's just not find out.

The girl approached me on a desolate stretch of Metropolitan Parkway, about halfway between the airport and the clustered lights of the downtown skyline. The night was unusually cold and she was shivering a little. She told me she was 15, but she didn't look more than 12.

It was bad enough that the child was outside at all at midnight. The fact that she was turning tricks was heartbreaking. I explained that I was a reporter for The New York Times and asked if she would wait while I went to get someone to help her. She looked surprised. ''I don't need any help,'' she said.

I had already spent a night traveling with undercover vice cops, and they had pointed out the different neighborhoods in which under-age prostitutes, some as young as 10, roamed the streets.

Whether you're liberal or conservative, you should hope Senator Barack Obama runs for president.

Barack Obama should run for president.

He should run first for the good of his party. It would demoralize the Democrats to go through a long primary season with the most exciting figure in the party looming off in the distance like some unapproachable dream. The next Democratic nominee should either be Barack Obama or should have the stature that would come from defeating Barack Obama.

[CanYoAssDigIt] Re: [RxR108] Re: how to avoid being shot by a cop

I know that people like to attach a name to material from anonymous sources in order to give it a false sense of gravity (a principle I learned from Ralph Keye's wonderful book, "Nice Guys Finish Seventh" - check it out at http://www.ralphkeyes.com/pages/books_old/niceguys/) - but it seems bizarre that they would attribute this apology for bad police behavior to Cheri Lewis, part of the pathetically incompetent O J Simpson prosecution, an affair notible for police and prosecutorial misconduct.  I might add, a prosecution which unsuccessfully tried to sell racist behavior to a jury that was 3/4 black.

So I know that Sheri Lewis isn't the sharpest tool in the shed, but would she address this diatribe to "slick"?  Might as well attribute this to Abraham Lincoln, it would be just as (un)believable, and it would have more gravity.

The anonymous author left off Rule #6:

Don't be black while being a citizen.

With Bush's signature on the new terrorism bill soon, we will soon have Rule #7:

Don't have an independent idea about politics.  Ever.

Welcome to the New Age, never thought we'd get this far!

[CanYoAssDigIt] Happened more than 15 minutes ago, and therefore not news

>From an interesting blog at
http://digbysblog.blogspot.com/2005_05_15_digbysblog_archive.html

"Some of the same M.P.'s took a particular interest in an emotionally
disturbed Afghan detainee who was known to eat his feces and mutilate
himself with concertina wire. The soldiers kneed the man repeatedly in
the legs and, at one point, chained him with his arms straight up in
the air, Specialist Callaway told investigators. They also nicknamed
him "Timmy," after a disabled child in the animated television series
"South Park." One of the guards who beat the prisoner also taught him
to screech like the cartoon character, Specialist Callaway said.

Eventually, the man was sent home.

There's some South Park Republicans for you."

I'm sure "Timmy" feels better now that Paris and Nicole have kissed
and made up, though!

[CanYoAssDigIt] Re: [Fiends] Scary, Disturbing, Terrifying

I fear the United States government.

Imagine the nightmare scenario of being a taxi driver with no
relationship to any terrorism or armed or unarmed resistance of any
kind, and being kidnapped, and beaten so severely that your legs were
turned to pulp, and then dying of your injuries.

An Afghan named Dilawar did not have to imagine it - because it
happened to him. Now he imagines nothing at all, ever again.

The United States government delivered a nightmare much worse than
Michael Harlan Lyman's to Dilawar, as it has to hundreds and thousands
of innocent people since the beginning of the war on terror. It was
doing it before of course, but in smaller numbers, and they felt they
had to hide it then.

They say that chickens come home to roost. If this is so, we won't
have to ever stretch our imaginations again when it comes to horror.
Any zeal we might have had to celebrate Halloween will be dampened by
the real horror and terror that will be visited upon us, as payback
for criminal sadistic actions carried out in our names, which we did
too little to stop.

Happy Halloween, indeed

[CanYoAssDigIt] Re: [OregonDems_etc] Fwd:Lieberman Loves Him Some Hastert

Well, let's try to keep a little perspective on this.  16-year-olds aren't children, they're adolescents. They are regarded as able to operate as adults in certain arenas; they can be licensed to drive automobiles, and even to marry in some places.

The whole page thing is extremely useful to the scions of well-connected families to learn how to advance in the corrupt and unwholesome environment of politics.  There have been enough page scandals that I never would send any offspring of mine into this environment, but if I wanted the fruit of my lions to grow up to be Monica Lewinsky or Steve Gobie, I couldn't think if a better training ground.

If sane people made the rules, the tradition of pages would have been abolished decades or centuries ago, but these things are run by people like Paris Hilton's parents, and while they may profess to be shocked, I tell you, shocked that these things are going on in Babylon on the Potomac, they don't really have much reason to be.

I misremembered that Steve Gobie was a page, but upon reviewing Barney Frank's Wikipedia page, I see that he wasn't.  But still, this was a pretty unsavory jam Frank got himself into, and survived by standing his ground.  Can you blame the Republicans for circling the wagons - would you want to be without Barney Frank?  At any rate, there is no shortage of sex scandals among Democrats - Many of them are horndogs too, drunk on booze and power. Enjoy this while you can, it will be cutting the other way soon enough.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barney_Frank

In 1990, the House voted to reprimand Frank when it was revealed that Steve Gobie, a male prostitute that Rep. Frank had befriended after hiring him through a personal advertisement, had conducted a prostitution ring from Frank's apartment when he was not at home. Frank had dismissed Gobie earlier that year after learning of Gobie's activities.

The Boston Globe, among others, called on Frank to resign, but he refused. The House Ethics Committee recommended Frank be reprimanded because he "reflected discredit upon the House" by using his congressional office to fix 33 of Gobie's parking tickets. Attempts to expel or censure Frank failed; instead the House voted 408-18 to reprimand him. This condemnation was not reflected in Frank's district, where he won re-election in 1990 with 66 percent of the vote, and has won by larger margins ever since.

Lieberman Loves Him Some Hastert

Joe Lieberman takes yet another swing at Democrats who want to "politicize" the gross mismangement by his Republican friends that led to the online sexual solicitation of minors who were under their protection.  As he told the Courant:

"The Foley case bothers people," he added. "If anyone thinks they can make this into another partisan flap, it's not. It's very real and human. The House Republican leaders and, frankly, the Democratic leadership, should not make it partisan."

Hey Harry Reid, he's talkin' about you. Are you gonna take that — again?

Ned Lamont :

"The fact that Joe Lieberman says calling for Hastert's resignation is too `partisan' demonstrates that he's been in Washington so long that he can't recognize the difference between what's right and what's partisan."

Sirota :

Many have been disgusted with Lieberman's refusal to hold the White House accountable when it came to the Iraq War, and his vicious attacks on those who have criticized the war. But this goes from disgusting to nauseating. Watching him, you think you are watching a smarmy politician in a B comedy movie about Washington. You know, the guy who goes before cameras to claim to be a moral pious man, and then turns around, pockets a huge amount of Republican cash from moneymen funding the legal defense of indicted government officials, and then goes back out and attacks those demanding action to deal with the cover up of a child sexual predator scandal.

Put another way, this is the kind of behavior that confirms all the awful stereotypes people think about politicians. As Lamont told reporters today in reiterating his call for Hastert to resign immediately , people in Washington like Lieberman are reacting to this story as if children are just props in morally challenged politicians' never-ending quest to hold onto power. It's sick and its wrong - and it's time for a change.

The memory of Holy Joe on the floor of the Senate being his sanctimonious, scolding, old-maid self makes it — if possible — even worse.

Jeebus he is a sickening, degenerate, soulless, bought-and-paid-for DC insider hack.

[CanYoAssDigIt] I will pull down a mighty reckoning on Hugo Chávez

No wonder Hugo Chávez is so unpopular with Bizarros. The following
from the NY Times:

***

At a news conference after his spirited address to the United Nations
on Wednesday, President Hugo Chávez of Venezuela expressed one regret:
not having met that icon of the American left, the linguist Noam
Chomsky, before his death.

Yesterday, a call to Mr. Chomsky's house found him very much alive. In
fact, he was struggling through "10,000 e-mails" he had received since
the remarks by Mr. Chávez, who urged Americans to read one of Mr.
Chomsky's books instead of watching Superman and Batman movies, which
he said "make people stupid."

***

The nerve of that guy, he dares to mock the fans of the Dark Night and
the Man of Steel!! I'm gonna go role an 18, put on my cape and cowl,
and open up a can of whup ass on this Mr. Cheetos or whatever his name
is. My ultimate triumph is assured. I have 10 points of
invulnerability, and I am wearing boots of escaping (just like this:

[CanYoAssDigIt] Fwd: By your 37th birthday, Matt, a miracle could change your life. Don't miss this chance!

Rochelle the psychic missed the boat on this one, didn't she?

Aside from the fact tht my 37th BD came and went without much of a miracle, there's that whole spirit animal thing.

I already have a spirit animal, who has already left a gift for me.  In fact, I should go clean it up now before somebody steps in it.

Rochelle's Credentials

By the time you turn 37, Matt, you could see a miracle happen in your life!

YOUR "POWER CRYSTAL" CHARM

Your

Yes, Matt! As I told you in an earlier email, since your birth in 1970, an invisible Divine Being has chosen to bestow you with a Secret Power that will give you Joy, Health and more Money.

I want to show you how to call on your
Spirit Animal Helper for all kinds of help.

Don't worry, you don't have to be a Shaman or a psychic to do this. In fact, you don't need any special skills whatsoever! All you need is faith in the love of your Spirit Animal Helper, and a little knowledge of how he "works," so you can work with him.

Even if your Spirit Animal Helper has strayed from your side, I'm going to tell you how to bring him back.

It's very simple...and all the information you need is in a special study,

"YOUR SPIRIT ANIMAL HELPER:
THE DIVINE GUARDIAN OF YOUR HAPPINESS"

With this easy-to-follow instruction guide in your hands, you will finally be reunited with your Spirit Animal Helper -- the loving companion who has been beside you all your life. And you'll probably be surprised at how much comfort and peace of mind your Spirit Animal can bring you once you make contact with him. Some people say it's like finding a long-lost, very powerful friend!

The first thing you need to know is which Spirit Animal Helper was "assigned" to you when you were born, and the special traits and talents this Spirit Animal lends you. This will show you how to discover your Spirit Animal.

You'll also find out how to get the protection
you need from your Spirit Animal Helper.

He will watch over your home, family, pets and other precious possessions -- all you have to do is ask!

With "Your Spirit Animal Helper: The Divine Guardian of Your Happiness," you will understand the personal messages that your Spirit Animal Helper is sending you. For example:
  • Do you know what it means when a bird builds a nest near your home? (It could mean a baby is coming into your family!)

  • Or when a chipmunk scampers by? (It may be warning you to conserve your energy or money.)

  • Or when you see a spider in your house? (Spiders mean hope, and often wealth!)

  • Or when you see a dolphin or meditate on its image? (It can help you find your way when you feel lost or stranded.)

  • Or when a ladybug lands on your hand? (Make a wish! It means you're beginning a new and lucky period in your life.)
Once you understand these signs, it will be as if you're receiving secret messages from the Spirit World!

Wait! To help you make an even stronger connection
with your Spirit Animal Helper, I want you to have this
"POWER CRYSTAL" CHARM as my FREE gift to you!

This extraordinary crystal charm is not only beautiful, it also has the power to help you contact your Spirit Animal Helper. Crystal has been prized for centuries because it can put us in touch with the Spirit World.

If you carry or wear this Charm every day, you will always feel the presence of your Spirit Animal Helper. You will feel protected and guided by its Divine wisdom and power. Cherish your Crystal Charm, and it will attract to you all the wonderful blessings you desire!

Your

Don't Miss This Chance for Happiness Trust the power of your Spirit Animal Helper,
and your whole life will be completely
transformed before your next birthday!

Personally, I would like nothing better than to see you accept such a wonderful change, because YOU REALLY DESERVE TO BE HAPPY! That's why I hope you'll send for a copy of "Your Spirit Animal Helper" TODAY.

And I managed to get you a discount of over 60%

And because I don't want you to wait any longer for the joy and fulfillment you could be experiencing right now, I've arranged for you to have this book for $9.95, a 60% discount. You'll save more than $15.00 off the regular price.

And, the magic of your Spirit Animal Helper
comes to you Absolutely Risk-FREE!

That's right, because if at any time, for any reason, you're not 100% convinced that the secret information contained in "Your Spirit Animal Helper: The Divine Guardian of Your Happiness" has helped bring a miraculous sense of Security and Well-Being into your life...all you have to do is return the book to me and I WILL REFUND YOUR PAYMENT, including the shipping and handling charge, immediately.

Your Spirit Animal Helper is Waiting for You!

No matter how much help you need, Matt, your Spirit Animal Helper is ready and waiting to serve you and turn your worries and difficulties into SECURITY, SUCCESS, and REAL, LASTING JOY!

"Austin moved to LA, he's living in Kara Dioguardi's home in
Hollywood Hills. (she was a judge on the show and a very successful

That's a cozy arrangement, but I'm sure she was 100% impartial as a judge.

Check us out, nobody is living in anybody's bedroom in this band, we are totally on our own:

Well, Nigel lives in a bedroom in Mark's house, but I'd argue it's appropriate.  NIgel is Mark's son.

We have about a half dozen problems holding us up from posting the
nominations. Once we fix or resolve them, we'll create the final
pages to post all the nominees. We have somewhere in the ballpark of
2000 nominees this year.
80 album categories,
67 Song categories,
4 Video categories and
the Lyric Category. (Not to mention all the Founders awards stuff
but we don't post those nominees).

FLM SOCIETY MUSIC

512 345-5797

This performance of Mary K. Shanahan's Cchild of the Chain TM
includes the Austin premier of Rudy Davenport's September 11, a
composition for piano that Executive Producer Mary K. Shanahan
calls "one of the most emotionally overwhelming pieces I have ever
heard. Rudy captured the horror, the anguish and the shock ... as
well as the heroism on that day. It is raw, unnerving and healing at
the same time."

Davenport, an Austin composer, was recently contacted about his
newest chamber music offering Byna, by the Kennedy Center for the
Performing Arts in Washington D.C.

Byna, which premiered (with funding from The National Endowment for
the Arts) to rave reviews in the Southeast last year, is a song
cycle composed for soprano, oboe, cello and piano. Current
discussions are to add it to Kennedy Center's schedule later this
year, if all members of the original ensemble are available.

Davenport will also be performing several compositions written with
Mary K. Shanahan, and a new arrangement of Jesus Wept which was
written by two other Texans, Mary Dawson and Bruce Greer, and
pitched to Shanahan after a soft debut of Child of the Chain TM at
One World Theatre last year. Shanahan recorded the compelling song
about Christ at Bismeaux Studios for radio two weeks ago under the
watchful eye of Gospel Music's Grammy winning songwriter/producer
Chris Morris with Davenport on piano, Rich Brotherton on acoustic
guitar, Jacob Lowery on bass, Omar Lopez on violin, and Jason
Meekins providing percussion.

Mary K. Shanahan's Child of the Chain TM, was inspired by her
national charting single on Christian radio of the same name. This
new live performance offering gives Mary a platform to showcase her
work ... as well as that of other Texas songwriters and composers
she feels need to be heard. Part of the mission of the show is to
pass down new hymns and songs to young artists. On September 8th,
Andrew Cannata, a student at St. Edwards University will be a
featured performer. Shanahan, who is a past two term president of
the Austin Songwriter's Group, has been a formidable advocate for
Texas music behind the scenes for years. She takes her passion for
Texas songwriters to another level on
September 8th at

8:00 p.m. at
Emmaus,
1718 Lohman's Crossing in Lakeway.

Here was an answer to a question an artist asked me:

you may have different issues in the area of micropayments with some
of the services where people pay a monthly fee to rent songs and the
companies make small payments for each time a song is played

but right now the bulk of the sales are taking play from sales of
singles and CDs on itunes
here's a list of the companies
http://cdbaby.net/dd?f=4

and here's the totals for CDBaby on

which digital retailers have paid how much
http://cdbaby.org/stories/06/02/08/8880755.html

which pretty much shows you itunes is the 500 pound gorilla of
digital downloads and
(so far) everything else isn't of much significance

you might also need to figure out how to do accounting for
when a person buys a whole CD for 9.99
but I think you just look at
how many songs there are on the CD and
how much money is received

I don't think the 9.1 cents per song should change
which means the artist and label have less to split

Hi Ande,

I'm looking for some original pop songs ala Kelly Clarkson (or any

It's more of a promotional tool for her and there probably isn't

Anyway, if you have anything or can recommend anyone, I'd appreciate
