Dear Matt,

Send Boehner a pacifier - click here to take action.

John Boehner can do two things with the thousands of pacifiers we hope to send him:

1. He can see them as a message from an overwhelming number of Americans that it's time for him to act like an adult, and stand up to the irresponsible and childish behavior among his party that is putting our nation in serious jeopardy.

2. He can hand them out to the members of his party, as a message that members of Congress must stop acting like spoiled brats. Their actions have consequences, and the longer they keep the government shut down at the hands of their petulant and reckless tantrum, the greater those consequences become -- both for their jobs and for our nation.

Boehner has the Republican votes to pass a clean budget resolution and end the Republican tantrum which has shut down our government.1 All he needs to do is call a vote.

But until he puts on his big boy pants, and starts acting like an adult who serves in one of the most powerful offices in U.S. government -- speaker of the House -– we're going to treat him, and the Republicans he leads, according to how they are acting.

We're sending John Boehner a pacifier for every person who signs the petition calling for a vote on a clean budget resolution - up to 100,000 pacifiers! Click here to automatically add your name.

John Boehner has been called a cry baby in the past.2 But right now it's not Boehner who is crying -- it's the federal workers who aren't receiving paychecks. It's the small-business owners who saw their business vaporized when the national parks visitors they depend on for their livelihoods were turned away at the park gates. It's the parents of a child with cancer whose access to experimental and possibly lifesaving medicine was cut off because the NIH had to cancel a drug trial.

The op-ed pages of the nation's newspapers have spared few words in laying the blame on irresponsible Republicans. Even the usually conservative USA Today put it bluntly:3

"[This shutdown] is the product of an increasingly radicalized Republican Party, controlled by a disaffected base that demands legislative hostage-taking in an effort to get what it has not been able to attain by the usual means: winning elections... More immediately, the party needs to get out of the hole it is digging for itself and the nation. That will require Boehner to allow the House to vote on a bill to fund the government without any Obamacare amendments... Whether and when Boehner will permit such a vote remains to be seen, but as the shutdown drags on and the toll on the economy mounts, the public will have little trouble seeing where the blame is properly laid."

The Washington Post was even more blunt, more or less calling for Republican leadership to resign if they aren't willing to end this mess:4

"More specifically, the Republican leaders of the House of Representatives are failing. They should fulfill their basic duties to the American people or make way for legislators who will... Speaker John Boehner, Majority Leader Eric Cantor, Budget Committee chairman and former vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan and their colleagues may be in a difficult political position. Honestly, we don't much care. They need to reopen the government and let it pay its bills.

But instead of stepping up, Boehner is still acting like a babysitter who got conned into letting the kids make the rules: Watch R-rated movies as late as they want, eat lots of candy instead of dinner, and shut down the government if they don't get their way after 42 failed attempts to repeal the Affordable Care Act, a failed effort to overturn it in the Supreme Court, and a failed campaign to overturn it at the nation's ballot box.

With each passing day of this shutdown, Republicans do more damage to their party, their re-election prospects and most important, our nation.

Help us send thousands of pacifiers to John Boehner's office to convince him that it's time for an adult moment. Click here to automatically sign the petition.

Thanks for helping to hold irresponsible Republicans accountable.

[ItsAllAboutMeMan] Re: New York Times stunner

Dear Anna,

It would be nice to kiss Obama's radical right agenda goodbye, wouldn't it?  But what the Republicans want is Obamaism without Obama, just like they wanted Saddamism without Saddam.

They got it then, will they get it now?  Who cares? I don't care if the neoliberals or the neocons destroy this country. Why do you pretend to care?  How much do they pay you to pretend there's a dime's worth of difference?

In conclusion, get lost, and I mean that in the nicest possible way.

Chip in $5

Dear MoveOn member,

This is stunning: The New York Times' data wizard Nate Silver—who predicted the 2012 election results state-by-state with uncanny accuracy—is now projecting that, "Republicans [are] close to even-money to win control of the [Senate] after next year's elections."1

It's the worst-case scenario: Republicans win a majority in the Senate, and we can kiss the rest of President Obama's agenda goodbye.

To make things worse, they have a plan to steal the 2014 election starting right now by making it harder for seniors, students, poor people, and African-Americans to vote.

Back in May, the Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act. Since then, Republicans in key states have been racing to purge voter rolls, eliminate early voting, and require new photo IDs to vote—anything they can do to make it harder to vote.

And in an election as close as this one will be, even 1-2 percentage points could turn the tide.

You think the fights over the budget, Obamacare, and immigration are bad now? Imagine Mitch McConnell in control of the U.S. Senate. Try getting any pro-choice judge confirmed for the Supreme Court against a GOP majority. Or stopping cuts to Social Security. Forget it.

The 2014 election is hugely important—and we can't let Republicans steal it now. So if you think you'll want to get involved sometime next year, I ask you: Please get engaged right now.

We're raising $250,000 this week to launch a 'Let Us Vote' Campaign to fight back right now—while it can make the greatest difference. Will you help?

How blatant are the GOP's efforts? North Carolina just passed what's widely being called the most extreme voter suppression law in the country. It requires Voter ID, reduces early voting, and ends same-day registration.2

Why there? Sen. Kay Hagan of North Carolina is just one of four Democrats up for re-election next year in a state won by Mitt Romney. If Republicans can reduce turnout in North Carolina and defeat her, it'll drastically improve their odds of taking the Senate.

To reverse the effects of this effort, we have a 3-pronged plan of attack:

1. We'll launch state-by-state campaigns to roll back discriminatory voter suppression laws, rules and regulations when state legislatures are back in session.

2. We'll prepare a traditional and online media blitz, highlighting both the actions of extreme politicians like North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory and the stories of heroic individual voters whose rights are being trampled.

3. We'll organize an aggressive counter-intimidation campaign to mobilize the very same voters who are being disenfranchised. This tactic was proven to work last election, when showing voters what Republicans are really up to actually motivated unlikely voters to overcome barriers to get to the polls.4

We helped beat back the GOP voter suppression machine in 2012—and we can do it again—but all of us need to help. And we can't afford to wait until next year. Are you in to support our "Let Us Vote" campaign?

Thanks for all you do.

Hi Tonia

Well, it is certainly wonderful news to hear that you have found true
love with Juan - it's a rare and beautiful thing. I want you to know
that I am very happy for you, and I have always loved you and wanted
the best for you, and though I was unable to help you, it wasn't for
lack of trying, I just wasn't able to make the necessary connections
here in Australia. I'll be home on the 25th.

In late September, I'm going to Brazil for a couple of weeks to record
an album. Perhaps I can stop over in Paraguay; do you know any places
there I can play some shows?

Thank you again Tonia, all the best to you.

[ItsAllAboutMeMan] Re: MoveOn under attack

Oh, come on, who would do such a thing to MoveOn, so torpid and timid and middle of the road?  It might be some real progressives that are fed up with your support of Obama and his elitist rich bosses - in which case, i say good on em, they couldn't have picked a better target.

have a nice day,

Will you chip in $5 today to help make sure MoveOn is strong in the days and months ahead?

Chip in $5

Dear MoveOn member,

Anonymous attackers just tried to shut down MoveOn's site.

Over the weekend, someone unleashed millions of artificial requests at our servers, preventing legitimate traffic from getting through, and temporarily shutting down our website. It's what's called a Denial of Service Attack, and this was the largest one we've ever faced. Over 15 years, through wars and heated elections, we've never seen anything like this.

It was the equivalent of someone firing a shot-gun through our window—clearly aimed to intimidate us and interrupt our work. Tens of of thousands of MoveOn members and other visitors were unable to organize on our site—sign petitions, plan events, run campaigns—for hours as our ace tech team raced to fight the attack and get the site back up.

We're back up and running with new defense measure in place, but while this was the biggest attack we've faced, it won't be the last. We must quickly beef up our defenses so MoveOn members can keep running campaigns that speak truth to power without fear.

Will you chip in $5 today to help make sure MoveOn is on and strong enough to withstand the next attack when it comes?

Yes, I'll chip in to defend against anonymous attackers trying to shut MoveOn down.

While we were under attack, MoveOn staff couldn't access some of our most essential tech tools. Over 45,000 MoveOn members were unable to reach their petition signers and campaign data. Over 300 groups met this weekend to kick off a massive anti-fracking campaign—and all those groups were briefly locked out of our systems.

Paralyzing MoveOn for a few hours was a big blow. Taking us out for a day would be a disaster. Our 8 million members are everywhere, fighting bravely to change this country, working on timely campaigns—they can't wait for the tools and back-up we provide. We need to be ready for the next attack—and we will be.

With your support, we will:

  • Recover the costs of the extra tech time we already put in to recover from this most recent attack
  • Acquire new tools that'll help us recover more quickly next time this happens
  • Continue to invest in best-in-class technology to power our campaigns

Will you help us protect ourselves from future malicious attacks and continue to invest in powerful tools that are changing the country?

Yes, I can chip in $5 to defend against anonymous attackers and keep vital campaigns going in the face of intimidation and sabotage.

Thanks for all you do.

[ItsAllAboutMeMan] Re: A question about a prize

I too might be a bit long in the tooth for dubstep, but fortunately I have an excellent teacher in the genre who is within the age range of people who listen to and produce dubstep, and applying his principles (laid out here in this video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-HXe7BQtlmo), I came up with a production that was pleasing to Talenthouse associates.

I still have not heard from Don Goliath, but I personally am not in a rush. I'm currently in Australia, where I had an appearance on Street Stars (http://streetstars.com.au/).  Pretty soon after I get home, I'll be turning around and going to Sao Paulo, Brazil for some performing and recording (hope I don't get caught up in any police sweeps of the protests there!) so I have plenty to keep me busy.

But though Talenthousers may have been happy with my dubstep, I won't be happy with it until Don Goliath is happy with it.

Hi Jo,

I saw that you had written me a while back from Talenthouse, so I thought I might give you a try to see if you can take a hand in setting something right for me, or at least investigating the situation.

I previously asked Derek, who has always been really helpful and prompt, to look into this for me, but this time, I wonder if he might have let me down, since I've had no reply.

I then asked Danielle, who wrote to me about another matter, but she seemed friendly, and I thought she might be able to help, but as yet I have no reply from her either.

So here, is my situation; as you might know, I was thrilled to be the people's choice winner for this contest:
http://www.talenthouse.com/remix-for-don-goliath

I was all about the honor, but then i noticed that there are supposed to be actual prizes associated with this achievement:

People's Choice

Digital release on Dubstep Division Recordings
£40 voucher for the Loopmasters online shop

I waited a while, but didn't hear from Mr. Goliath, so I attempted to contact him through his website and ask him when the prizes will be awarded. So far I've heard no response from him.

Now, I don't know if he ever drops by your offices, or maybe you go out to clubs where he's djing or playing or whatever those dubstep guys do, but if you happen to see him any time soon, please let him know that while I can really use those products from his online shop, I'm most excited about the release on the Dubstep Division Recordings. i am also aware that however popular my conception of Dubstep might be with the public at large, I recognize that my mix was very rough, and might not be up to his professional standards. If you see him, will you let him know that I am willing to rework this material as many times as necessary to bring it up to the standards of his company?

Thank you very much,

Matt Love
