[ITSALLABOUTMEMAN] More stupid nonsense on NPR

I don't know how long my comment will be allowed to stay, it almost certainly violates one community guideline or another, so I repost it here.

Read the dumber than dumb story at http://www.npr.org/blogs/alltechconsidered/2014/12/04/368449855/north-koreas-cyber-skills-get-attention-amid-sony-hacking-mystery

and then read my comments below:

Matt Love a minute ago

What a hilarious statement: ""North Koreans do not have an independent world of art and entertainment. And so they don't separate propaganda from entertainment. So it's very difficult for them to understand that the U.S. and many
other countries have a completely independent world that's called Hollywood," Boy, talk about evidence of a colonized mind, here it is. She says all this without a trace of irony. Never noticing how our government, citizenry, propaganda and entertainment media all march in lockstep in mocking and demonizing the same select targets. The US may never mount an invasion of North Korea, but it's all set up for one. You know who the next intended victim of the US will be - they show up in the National Enquirer in a dress in a photoshopped picture. Noriega, Saddam, Gaddafi, it's so predictable, but like Charlie Brown and the football, the public lines up for it again and again, and NPR is the National Enquirer of the 'people who like to think they are thinking people' class. Here in the US where we have an independent world of art and entertainment, of course, they produce slapstick comedies about assassinating American politicians, because they are so independent and stuff. Grow up, people! Wouldn't it be great if people in think tanks actually tried thinking for a change?

[ITSALLABOUTMEMAN] NPR is Fox for people who like to think they are better than everybody else

Take this bit of rubbish, and the idiot response by their simpleton viewers:

http://www.npr.org/blogs/itsallpolitics/2014/02/27/283464503/seth-rogen-tees-off-on-senators-who-walked-out-on-his-testimony?uidt=1417963868#commentBlock

Seth Rogen Tees Off On Senators Who Walked Out On His Testimony

February 27, 2014 5:43 PM ET

People don't raise the possibility that the Senators don't like being lectured by celebrities, especially a vulgarian like this one, any more than normal people. For that, who could blame them?

People don't like to hear how their criminal conduct kills people, either, but I wish our government would act responsibly, and change, so their failure to show up at this hearing (which didn't bother the stenographers at NPR in the slightest) is much greater cause for dismay and despair:

http://www.aljazeera.com/indepth/opinion/2013/11/malala-nabila-worlds-apart-201311193857549913.html

However, despite overcoming incredible obstacles in order to travel from their remote village to the United States, Nabila and her family were roundly ignored. At the congressional hearing where they gave testimony, only five out of 430 representatives showed up. In the words of Nabila's father to those few who did attend"My daughter does not have the face of a terrorist and neither did my mother. It just doesn't make sense to me, why this happened… as a teacher, I wanted to educate Americans and let them know my children have been injured."

Its just about impossible to educate Americans about anything (and their junior partners in their global jehad, the British) they are incapable of listening.  Consider this piece from the generally well-meaing Guardian:  http://www.theguardian.com/world/2013/oct/29/pakistan-family-drone-victim-testimony-congress

The headline reads: "Drone strikes: tears in Congress as Pakistani family tells of mother's death" which is heartening, but in the actual story, it reveals that it was the translator that was crying, not the pathetically small contingent of lawbreakers that showed up at the gig (the puny size of the audience is buried in the article.

This does not stop ignorant facist loyal Muricans like 'Bulldoggy' from fantisizing that this is all some publicity stunt stage managed by our congress who he imagines are trying to limit our executive death squad's ability to kill without restrant or remorse:

20 21

To be fair then Congress should hear testimony from surviving family members of the 15,000+ 2012 deaths worldwide at the hands of Islamist fundamentalists, mostly AQ and Taliban.

What an absolute waste of minerals. No wonder So many people around the globe hate Americans, when this is what this benighted country always leads with.

[ITSALLABOUTMEMAN] Re: Occupy Facebook Page

Nothing has been done about this yet.

I've started to become a little impatient, and I have discussed this
on my blog, and have mentioned it to one Facebook friend who is an
Occupy Wall Street supporter. I have 43 other friends who are also
supporters on Facebook. Am I going to have to try to enlist them to
try to get your moderators to correct their error?

Why do you praise your adversaries, (Obama, for example) and censor
your friends? This is not a program for success.

Please look into this and do something about it.

[ITSALLABOUTMEMAN] Re: Go big, Mr. President

Dear Ms. vanden Heuvel,

I gave you the same advice (http://mattlove1.blogspot.com/2014/11/itsallaboutmeman-re-president-obama.html) I gave the folks at Credo who seem to want more the same thing - Obama to pour out his awfulness on our nation. My advice is "give it a rest." He's done enough damage already, and he hasn't listened to you for 6 years, and he won't listen to you for the next 2, he's going to be doing as much harm as he can to poor and working people, and as much favorable actions he can for his fellow rich people.

Of course, your once worthy publication, like Mother Jones, has become a mouthpiece for the Democratic  Party. It's times like this I most miss Alexander Cockburn. He would have had some choice things to say about your ridiculous letter.

On Sat, Nov 8, 2014 at 10:05 AM, The Nation Magazine <emails@emails.thenation.com> wrote:

On election night, Nation editor and publisher Katrina vanden Heuvel challenged President Obama to "draw the line in the sand this week. "As soon as the results were clear, she posted this piece: "The Democrats Lost Big Tonight. Why Obama Should Double Down." "The Obama administration should act right away to use its executive powers to take steps to deal with long-ignored issues that need to be dealt with for the good of the nation."

While mainstream media coverage was buying into GOP talking points and writing the president off as a lame duck, The Nation offered up an independent dose of reality. "Sixth-year setbacks are common for presidents. And Obama need not let this one define him."

"President Obama should embrace good progressive public policy while expecting—indeed, hoping for—a massive outcry from the wing-nut section of the GOP," vanden Heuvel wrote.

Among her prescriptions were to "act big—and act fast": start with serious immigration reform; go up to the edge of normalizing relations with Cuba; cancel the Keystone XL pipeline; nominate a diverse set of progressives to fill every judicial vacancy at every level; nominate Tom Harkin to the Federal Reserve Board; and embrace a good jobs initiative.

"Pick a fight with Rick Perry and/or Jan Brewer, if need be, and be glad that you're in a high-profile fight with them. Let the right wing come unglued—which they will!—and don't back down when Steve King and Louie Gohmert and Ted Cruz and Sarah Palin start calling for impeachment."

The Nation stands apart from other publications in our willingness to expose abuses wherever we see them, and take on a rigged system which is shafting hard-working Americans and privileging America's 1 percent. But we can't do it alone. We need your support. Please consider a low-cost digital subscription to support our journalism.

[ITSALLABOUTMEMAN] Re: President Obama

Hey Becky and Michael,

I don't even know where to start  to respond to your imbecilic email. You want Obama to start showing leadership now before it's too late. I think we pretty much know what he's up to already (partial list attached below) and I don't think we know any more of it. We're going to see more and more of that Obama magic in the next two years, as he can do what he is naturally inclined to do and claim he's just a victim of those rough-housing Republicans. It's a perfect setup for him, and the interests he serves, and I don't see how appealing to a better nature he does not possess, politely or aggressively, is going to change one thing.  There are way better places to take the fight.

And by the way, the phrase is "toed the line" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toe_the_line) and you used it completely incorrectly. Why don't you hire me to proof read your appeals before you send them out?  I can root out the pidgin english phrases, and add useful comments such as "it's useless to expect anything other than more of the same service to the wealthy from the scum sucking neoliberal in the white house. Join us in the streets, comrades!"

Obama's Betrayals:  A partial list.

Dropped bombs in 6 other Muslim countries.
Said, "I believe in American exceptionalism with every fiber of my being."
Bragged about his use of drones - I'm "really good at killing people".
Deported a modern-record 2 million immigrants.
Signed the Monsanto Protection Act into law.
Started a new war in Iraq.
Planned $355 billion for a nuclear weapons program.
Initiated, and personally oversees a 'Secret Kill List'.
Pushed for war on Syria while siding with al-Qaeda.
Backed neo-Nazis in Ukraine.
Supported Israel's wars and occupation of Palestine.
Drastically escalated the NSA spying program.
Deployed Special Ops to 134 countries - compared to 60 under Bush.
Did a TV commercial promoting "clean coal".
Signed the NDAA into law - making it legal to assassinate Americans w/o charge or trial.
Given Bush absolute immunity for everything.
Pushed for a TPP Trade Pact.

Sold $30 billion of weapons to the dictatorship in Saudi Arabia.
Signed an agreement for 7 military bases in Colombia.
Opened a military base in Chile.
Touted nuclear power, even after the disaster in Japan.
Opened up deepwater oil drilling, even after the BP disaster.
Mandated the Insider Threat Program which orders federal employees to report suspicious actions of their colleagues.
Defended body scans and pat-downs at airports.
Signed the Patriot Act extension into law.
Launched 20,000 Airstrikes in his first term.
Continued Bush's rendition program.
Said the U.S. is the "one indispensable nation" in the world.
Waged war on Libya without congressional approval.
Started a covert, drone war in Yemen.
Escalated the proxy war in Somalia.
Escalated the CIA drone war in Pakistan.
Sharply escalated the war in Afghanistan.
Assassinated 4 US citizens with drone strikes.

President Obama must take executive action.

Dear Matt,

President Obama, lead. Before it's too late.

In the wake of Tuesday's electoral defeat, what happens now is going to depend a lot on what President Obama is willing to stand up and fight for.

That's not a comforting thought. But it's also up to us and how far we're willing to go to pressure the president to do the right and necessary thing.

In his press conference on Wednesday, president Obama towed the line between a willingness to push forward with progressive priorities if congress was unwilling to take action, and offers to look for so-called middle ground with the extremist Republicans who will control the Senate.

We don't know how far he's willing to push - or what he's willing to give up. But we know that the landscape in Washington DC just got worse. Much worse. It's up to us to quickly pivot to the key fights we know are coming as a result of Republican control of the Senate. And to push President Obama to do everything in his power to break through the coming Republican blockade.

Tell President Obama: Here are the ten things you have to do immediately now that Tea Party Republicans control both the House and the Senate.

Here are 10 things President Obama needs to do immediately -- and 10 things that aren't likely to happen if we don't make him do it.

  1. No deals on cuts to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.
  2. Strengthen the power plant carbon rule to make it your boldest action yet on climate.
  3. Immediately suspend deportations of millions of aspiring Americans until comprehensive immigration reform can be passed.
  4. Don't commit ground troops to Afghanistan, Iraq or Syria.
  5. Reject Keystone XL, and apply the climate test to all federal decision making.
  6. Save the Internet by making Net Neutrality the law of the land.
  7. Empower your Federal Election Commission to enforce election laws and limit money in politics.
  8. Fill all federal judicial vacancies before the end of this Congress.
  9. Fight back against the Republican war on women with NO compromises.
  10. Use federal powers to end abusive, militarized and biased policing targeting African Americans and Latinos.

Tell President Obama: Here are the ten things you have to do immediately now that Tea Party Republicans control both the House and the Senate.

It's worth noting that progressive base turnout was down in this election in part because President Obama has been far too reluctant to use his executive power to deliver victories on key progressive issues from climate to immigration to economic justice.

To make matters worse, the Republicans now in control of the Senate and House will do everything in their power to advance their Tea Party agenda – including what Democrats refused to do, like getting rid of the filibuster for legislation, using reconciliation to pass bills with only 51 votes, and continuing to refuse to compromise in the face of Democrats all too willing to cave preemptively.

President Obama can no longer credibly suggest that there is a bipartisan path to progress – though his advisors may urge him to do just that. He needs to take executive action. He must refuse to cave to Republicans. He cannot waste time negotiating with bad faith partners who have no intention of compromising ever.

Tell President Obama: Here are the ten things you have to do immediately now that Tea Party Republicans control both the House and the Senate.

Thank you for everything you do to work for progressive change.

[ITSALLABOUTMEMAN] Re: Sing out! Sunday in Ann Arbor

You are right, I am a passionate progressive, which is why I will mostly avoid voting for Democrats. It's a choice between the devil and the deep blue sea when it comes down to the choice between the two wings of the Corporate Party.

And where did you get the idea I was a member of MoveOn?  It's true I used to dally on the website, trying to inspire some sort of reform. Due to my efforts, and the efforts of others like me, you did indeed understand the need to change. But you just got worse, more unaccountable, less democratic.

I'll mostly be voting Green if I have the choice, and if you also regard yourself to be a progressive, you'll do likewise.

On Wed, Oct 29, 2014 at 7:48 PM, Matt Blizek, MoveOn.org Political Action <moveon-help@list.moveon.org> wrote:

MoveOn: Voters Rising
Average Time Spent Calling Voters

MoveOn members in Ypsilanti: 160 min.

You: 0 min.
Can you sign up to attend a GOTV call party in Ann Arbor on Sunday to make sure progressives show up to vote on Election Day?

Dear MoveOn member,

I don't need to tell you that this election is a toss-up, that time is short, or that control of the Senate is at stake—and what a disaster it would be if Republicans took the majority.

You already know all this. After all, you're reading this email.

You might be thinking, "You're preaching to the choir."

You're right: You—as a MoveOn member reading this email—are among the most passionate progressives in the country. I'm not worried whether you'll turn out.

I'm worried about the millions of Obama Democrats who don't plan to vote on November 4—voters who elected the president in 2008 and 2012 but sat out in 2010, when the Tea Party swept into power. They may decide control of the Senate—and we need your help getting them to the polls.

Click here to sign up to attend a get-out-the-vote call party in Ann Arbor on Sunday—it's our last of the year.

Or click here if you'd like to sign up to call voters from home.

If we can get these "drop-off" voters to the polls, we can win. In the key states that will determine control of the Senate, a few thousand votes—a few thousand people—will make the difference. Polls have been swinging back and forth in Iowa, Colorado, North Carolina, and other close races. In the end, it all comes down to turnout.

I can't reach all those Democratic voters with this email, nor convince them to come out and vote. But MoveOn members can mobilize them with our Voters Rising campaign.

And that's where you come in. This campaign is ambitious and effective—through a combination of technology and targeting, MoveOn members are making calls six times as effective as the calls we made in 2012. And we know that person-to-person contact is the only way to cut through the campaign noise and overcome the Republican Money Machine.

The program is in place. Now, we just need to make the calls. Will you join the all-hands-on-deck effort to get out the progressive vote? The best way to do it is together with other MoveOn members at a call party near you.

Yes, I'll sign up to talk to voters at a call party in Ann Arbor!

No, I can't make the call party but I'll sign up to call voters from home.

You know, there's a reason why preachers preach to the choir every week: Because it works.

So, yes, I'm preaching to the choir—for the same reasons preachers do: We want to hear that choir sing.

If you're ready, it's time to sing out!

Count me in—I'll sign up to help turn out voters by Election Day at a call party on Sunday in Ann Arbor.

I can't make the call party but count me in to call voters from home.

When MoveOn members take action together, amazing things can happen—like saving America from a Republican takeover of the Senate.

Thanks for all you do.

[ITSALLABOUTMEMAN] The awfulness that is Jian Ghomeshi

I endured this fellow on the CBC for much of the time we lived in Canada, but I never really took the time to put my feelings in writing, but then the scandal erupted, and I took the opportunity to lay it out in response to Mio Adilman's facebook post.  Unfortunately, I didn't think of reprinting it here until after he already deleted it!

Here is Adilman's post, followed by my reconstruction of my response as best I can remember it.

every week for 5 years this was also my experience...

I have no idea whether ex-CBC radio host Jian Ghomeshi is a sexual predator, as alleged. But I do...
fullcomment.nationalpost.com

Mio, I enjoyed your every appearance on Q, always. However I can't share Jonathan Kay's or your enthusiasm for Ghomeshi as a host. Program after program, he had great guests, but it was a frustration experience, the interviews were lumpy and disjointed because he could not resist constantly inserting himself into the story in places where he didn't belong.  His tagline was always "to be continued," but nothing was ever continued, nothing was ever finished or resolved because he was such a poor interviewer.

His interview of Billy Bob Thornton stands out in my memory.  I have no sympathy at all for Thornton; I hated him, and then I forgot him. I had to look up his name to write this. However, I was surprised to hear the interview - I concluded that Ghomeshi ambushed and baited him (perhaps he was bringing his bedroom technique into the interview?).  I realize this is a minority opinion, that overwhelmingly people approved of Ghomeshi's handling of the guest. Perhaps there was some national pride involved; local boy nails the hide of the Ugly American to the wall?

At any rate, I entirely gave up the dubious pleasure of Ghomeshi's company, and was better off for it. I wasn't thrilled when I learned that Ghomeshi had followed me back to the states via NPR after we moved back, but I've managed to avoid him here, too.  Kay mis-charactorizes NPR as the intellectual high end of American media; it's Fox News for the whine and brie set, who like to imagine they are consuming a superior brand of propaganda.

It was dismaying to me to experience the decay of the CBC (no doubt courtesy of Mr. Harper) during the time we lived there - it more and more began to resemble NPR. This was also the period of Ghomeshi's ascendancy.

if the charges against Ghomeshi are unfounded, I hope he comes out of this OK, but I really don't understand Kay's claims about his supposed greatness, he was one of the more irritating media people I've been exposed to.
