Evolution of Yahoo Groups

Dear Group Moderators and Members, Thank you for your commitment to Yahoo and for helping us define the power of digital communities. Eighteen years ago, we combined the functionality of a site called eGroups.com with a precursor community platform called Yahoo Clubs to launch Yahoo Groups. Since then, you and millions of others have helped prove our hypothesis, by creating and joining more than 10 Million groups. A lot has changed about the Internet since 2001, including the ways most people now use Yahoo Groups. Today, most Yahoo Groups activity happens in your email inbox, not on the bulletin boards where Yahoo Groups started in the pre-smartphone age. Increasingly, people want content and connections coming directly to them, and this is why we continue to invest in Yahoo Mail -- including the recent launch of a new Yahoo Mail app that is currently the highest-rated email app in the App Store and Google Play. So, as our users' habits have evolved, we have begun the process of evolving our approach to help active Yahoo Groups thrive and migrate to our email platform. To help you plan for these changes, below is the schedule of how this transition will happen. Beginning October 28, 2019: Users will be able to join a Yahoo Group only through an invite from the Group Moderator or by submitting a request to join a Group, which requires approval by the Group Moderator. Since we are moving Group communication from posting on message boards to email distribution, uploading and hosting of new content will also be disabled on the Yahoo Groups website. Beginning December 14, 2019: All Groups will be made private and any content that was previously uploaded via the website will be removed. We believe privacy is critical and made this decision to better align with our overall principles. If you would like to keep any of the content you've posted or stored in the past within your Yahoo Group, please download it by December 14 by accessing this link. As these dates get closer, we will send follow-up reminders. More information about the upcoming changes can be found here. While this evolution of Yahoo Groups is inspired by how we see the platform being used today, we know change can be difficult. Here are a few important facts as we make this transition: 1. Yahoo Groups is not going away - We know that our users are deeply passionate about connecting around shared interests, and we are evolving Groups to better align with how you use it today. 2. New groups can still be formed - Users can continue to connect with others around their common bonds and interests. From animal rescues to sporting and activity groups, civic organizations to local PTAs, members of our Yahoo Groups will remain connected and able to share their activities and interests. All of the content that you have shared previously on the website, can continue to be shared via email. We know that Yahoo Groups is an important online extension of your real-life group of friends, interests and communities, and we are committed to supporting communities that rely on Yahoo Groups. I saw a reference to a really awful article (https://www.politico.com/story/2019/06/05/study-russia-cybersecurity-twitter-1353543) on Reddit (what a cesspool).

I followed the link to the original location of this article, Politico, I wrote up a nice comment. When I tried to post it said "sign in." I tried to sign in. it opens a link to facebook signin. that is the only way you can comment on Politico, if you are on facebook. That tells you all you need to know about Politico. Here is my post for your enjoyment.

Oh, I'm sooo scared. You take a "may" have done this and a "might" have done that (right in the 2nd paragraph for the reading comprehension and logical thinking impaired) and you try to blow it up into some big whoop. All you have to do is read the comments and its perfectly obvious the problem is not Russian interference, to whatever extent (if any) it really exists, it's idiot Americans, going right back to the idiot founding slavers that didn't trust their social inferiors enough to give them a meaningful vote. The two worst of our not very good presidents in the 21st century were chosen by the founding slavers' democracy-nullifying device, not us, yet nobody is talking about getting rid of the impediment to democracy, they are all chattering like monkeys about the Russians. What I want to know is how did Putin get the founding slavers to put the electoral college in place? What an evil genius! American politicians spend billions trying to influence people's thinking, and the Russian with a few hundred thousand are able to run circles around them! How debased people's thought processes have become that they buy into this stuff. How cowardly we have become that we are afraid of ideas and thoughts. #politicoispropaganda and #idiocracyisadocumentary

Does anybody ever listen to "1A" on neoliberal propaganda radio? Like in real estate, they name their projects after the things they had to destroy in order to populate it. It is hosted by adult child Joshua Johnson, who would really rather be in a room in the basement playing video games and reading comic books than hosting a boring public affairs program. Perhaps it was his lack of zeal for the neoliberal program that let him slip a great truth (for a change the other day). With some degree of petulance, he announced that a great many listeners disagreed with their coverage of the US attack on democracy in Venezuela because of the US history in.... well just about everywhere all the time. but he concluded, tough luck for us because they were presenting "the facts." This admission that there was so many other people out there that they can't ignore, that he had to get his little jab in (delivered with childish petulance) provided me with great comfort. If you are thoughtful at all, they want you to feel alone. Their job is to try to make you feel that you are mentally ill if you deviate from the party line. I don't think it was a history-making moment, but Johnson delivered a great message to the freedom-loving reality-based community.
