I said when this story broke that Maria Butina was either the worst spy in the world, or no kind of spy at all. James Bamford, who alerted the world to the existence of the NSA, concludes "no kind of spy at all." Back then I found her mania about gun ownership repellent, but now that I know more about her, I see that she was trying to build people-to-people relationships with Russians just as I am; however, her vehicle of choice is guns, mine is music.
