[CanYoAssDigIt] dammit

I sure am glad I have this forum to sound off in when I am thwarted
elsewhere. This time it was the IMDB that violated my free speech.

For a film as old as Nanook of the North, it might be expected that
some cultural imperialism would seep into such an anthropological
venture. Amazingly, this is hardly the case. The lives of a band of
hardy eskimos are shown with little added or taken away. We see them
fighting for food, playing, building shelters, and cowering in the
dark winter. All of these elements are shown without undue
sentimentality. We are amazed at the lives we see because they are so
different from our own, yet we realize just how human they are when
they smile at us and engage us. The sequence where the igloo is built
is truly remarkable, as are many of the hunting expeditions. However,
just when we start to think that the life we are seeing may be perfect
in its purity, we are shown the other side of eskimo life. The bleak
ending of the film forces the viewer to come to terms with his
romanticized view of eskimos that the first part of the film creates.
A great film experience.

[CanYoAssDigIt] Poor Jessica!

I saw on the NEWS yesterday that Jessica Simpleton I mean Simpson burst into tears after she fricked up the song "9 to 5" at a Dolly Parton tribute show.

Poor Jessica!  Poor America! A sad day indeed.

BREAKING NEWS: BOLTON RESIGNS

Bush Man At UN Resigns
Updated: 14:46, Monday December 04, 2006

John Bolton, President Bush's controversial appointment as US ambassador to the United Nations, has resigned.

His position had been under threat since the Democrats took control of Congress in the US midterm elections.

Mr Bush had braved political opposition to give him him the job temporarily in August last year.

His confirmation has been languishing in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee ever since.

The no-nonsense Bush ally was opposed by Democrats and some Republicans.

The White House has now announced that Mr Bolton would leave office in a matter of days.

Spokeswoman Dana Perino said Mr Bush had reluctantly accepted Mr Bolton's decision to leave the UN post when the current session of the US Congress ends, probably at the end of the week.

Sky correspondent Andrew Wilson said that independent Senator Dan [?] Lieberman was a possible replacement. The former Democrat could be an acceptable compromise candidate.

More follows ...

[CanYoAssDigIt] I know how people on this list like to chat up any time a librarian is mentioned in the mundane world...

But I don't recollect anybody talking about a series of TV movies
called "The Librarian...."

One is on now. I'm really impressed. Impressed with how old Bob
Newhart looks, and how far he has travelled down the celebrity food
chain to appear in something like this....
