I got into a bit of a kerfuffle on Facebook... it all started with a harmless and fairly entertaining vid supposedly about being Canadian.

Foolishly enough, I pointed out a couple of instances where the myth of Canada is at odds with the reality. Soon I'm embroiled in conflict with any number of jingoistic Canadian nuts who thinks it makes them Canadian to act like the ugliest of the ugly Americans around. Here's a fairly tame example:
if you think Canada is so bad then get the fuck out old man, we don't want or need you. And when you go back make sure to tell your delusional fellow citizens that we hate of all of you fuckn hillbillies

We are going to leave here in the fall, it pretty much sucks here, it's all been a huge disappointment, but I'm not going to give these guys the satisfaction of thinking they've run us out. At any rate, I don't hold Canada responsible for these guys, it turns out most of them are ignorant and pooly socialized teenagers; they exist everywhere. I do hold Steven Harper, the oil sands, the seal hunts, the residential schools, the treatment of the Natives, the hatred and bigotry the English speakers have towards Francophones, the phony promises of their broken health care system, etc. against them.
We didn't do our homework; the Canada of our imagination (and that of most Americans, I would guess) disappeared with Trudeau. We didn't escape Bush by coming here - he ran this place too, through his lap dog proxy, Harper, and now Harper has just hopped on Obama's lap. We might as well come back home.
