yeah, they sound like the beatles, but you have to keep in mind that while the Czechs are very good mimics, they can't really initiate intellectual content or technological innovation the way that white people can.

It's working just the way I thought it would - all I needed was to get
one great band like yours to work with me on a song, and now other
candidates are lining up for their own turn.

Here's an example of the letter I'm now sending out when I get a
friend request on MySpace.

****

Hi "Lîv€ ¥øµ(r) Ð(r)£ðM§"

Hey, thanks for the friends invitation. I'm only approving new
friends who will collaborate with me on a song. That's what I've been
doing it with all folks who send me a friends request. I'm pleased to
announce that The ILL Figures are working with me on "Tie A Yellow
Ribbon 'Round The Old Oak Tree", and viale Kennedy, the creator of the
perfect sound to neck and snog" by, will join me in an innovative
cover of "(You're) Having My Baby - Paul Anka & Odia Coates, so they
are my new best friends. You can be my next new best friend, too – I
do Indie / Comedy Country music too (among other things - check out
"War Record" at www.soundclick.com/RemotePossibility

Or you can join me on updating one of the classics on my list. There
are still lots of good songs left that we can cover:

Baby Don't Get Hooked On Me- Mac Davis
Boogie Oogie Oogie - A Taste of Honey
Convoy-CW McCall

Clinton Booed! Clinton Booed!

Search for " Clinton booed" in Google News and as of this writing there are 319 news pieces about the reception she received at this week's Take Back America conference in DC. I understand that writing about candidates getting booed is the political media version of "if it bleeds, it leads." But I was sitting in the room myself and the facts just don't support writing up the event to suggest the crowd rejected her. Clinton came in to warm applause and left to even warmer applause. The one sustained booing session came when she said that, as I wrote in an earlier post, while the U.S. military has succeeded in Iraq, the Iraqi government has failed. There was considerable hisses and booing then, yes, but mixed with a good amount of cheering. Clinton smiled a bit and said, "I coming here." And then she wrapped up her speech to cheers.

"I think it was about four people,'' Rob Kall, publisher of OpEdNews.com said this morning. "I was in the front row and they were about four rows behind me. That brief incident by people not representative of the audience was used hundreds of times to attack her.''
Kall noted that he's not even a supporter of Clinton's presidential campaign.  http://www.airamerica.com/

[CanYoAssDigIt] Re: [Bizarro_UltraZine] Re: Understanding cartoons is a hard job...

The guy seemed reasonable enough, and what he was saying makes sense, but that fuckwad Loofahman kept trying to keep him off balance by ridiculing what he had to say and interrupting. Pretty typical. See, for example:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=HIVnwYGU9Qo

The people at Fox don't think that people can make up their own minds about this stuff, so they try to bury their viewers in a barrage of propaganda and lies.  Rupert Murdoch has a deep hatred for democracy, which is why he supported Bush, and he now supports Clinton.

And organ grinder Murdoch's monkey, O'Reilly, doesn't know the difference between a loofah and a falafel

Both these items of Arabic origin are much loved by Evergreen students (colloquially known as "greeners" - but even they know that one is for washing with, and one is for eating). Still, it's touching to know that O'Reilly has a bit of Arab and/or hippie in him.

And On the Other Hand...a Felafel?

What Happened to O'Reilly's Loofa?

By ALEXANDER COCKBURN

Thanksgiving brought us the one-month anniversary of Bill O'Reilly's disclosure on his show that "to protect my family" he had settled with Ms Andrea Mackris and her lawyer Benedict Morelli, thus cutting off what millions of O'Reilly haters had hoped would be a protracted season of public humiliation for Fox's apex bully. The settlement established that all parties agreed there had been no wrong doing and as an earnest of good faith O'Reilly (if you believe the New York Daily News) had paid anywhere from $2 million to $10 million to Mackris, nice money if true, though not as nice as the $60 million Morelli had originally suggested to O'Reilly as a satisfactorily round figure.

But there remains the mystery of the transmuted loofa, about which I had been hoping for some pleasing courtroom exchanges. Let's pick up the thread in the court document lodged in Nassau county, N.J., by Morelli on behalf of Mackris.

11.06 pm September 1, 2004.

O'Reilly calls Mackris, a 33 year-old innocent from the Show Me state, working as a producer on the O'Reilly show. She, poor lamb, says she thought it was about business and told him she'd call him right back. At this point, we surmise Ms Mackris may have activated a recording device and with the tape rolling, dialed the boss, who promptly gets down to business, launching into what the complaint harshly stigmatized as "a lewd and lascivious, unsolicited and disturbing sexually graphic talk", about how he imagines he would handle business if they were in the West Indies.

First he'd get two wines into Ms Mackris, "maybe intravenously". Then, "You would basically be in the shower and then I would come in and I'd join you and you would have your back to me and I would take the little loofa thing"

A loofa! This is no Motel 6, though it's not the Ritz either, where loofas would scarcely be "little", though admittedly size doesn't come up in the description of loofa offered by the The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language: Fourth Edition. 2000.

SYLLABICATION:
loo·fa

VARIANT FORMS:
or loo·fah also luf·fa NOUN:
1. Any of several Old World tropical vines of the genus Luffa, having cylindrical fruit with a fibrous, spongelike interior.

2. The dried, fibrous part of the loofa fruit, used as a washing sponge or as a filter. Also called dishcloth gourd, vegetable sponge.

ETYMOLOGY:

Arabic loof singulative form of loofa.

And what is O'Reilly, so strong, so masterful, planning to do with this thing of Arab origin? "I would take the little loofa thing and kinda' soap your back and rub it all over you, get you to relax, hot wate rand um You know, you'd feel the tension drain out of you and um you still would be with your back to me then I would kinda' put my arms--it's one of those mitts, those loofa mitts you know, so I got my hands in it and I would put it around front, kinda' rub your tummy with it and then with my other hand I would start to massage your boobs, get your nipples really hard 'cuz I like that and you have really spectacular boobs."

At this point, in the document filed in the court house in Nassau County, which would indeed appear to be a transcript right down to the ums, there's an ellipse.

"So anyway I'd be rubbing your big boobs and getting your nipples really hard, kinda kissing your neck from behind and then the other hand with the felafel thing"

NOUN:
1. Ground spiced chickpeas shaped into balls and fried.

2. A sandwich filled with such a mixture.

What happened to the loofa?

Maybe Abe Foxman called him on the other line to warn about "going Arab on us".

And what is O'Reilly planning to do with the falafel?

"I would take the other hand with the falafel thing (sic)and I'd put it on your pussy, but you'd have to do it really light, just kind of a tease business."

According to the courtroom document available for inspection on Smoking Gun, the quality of the conversation goes down hill from there on in. It may be that O'Reilly's tour of Arab commodities was proleptic, as he began to shift gears through the vowel sounds. For an interesting discussion of the processes involved I recommend Sebastiano Timpanaro's philological investigation, published in translation years ago by Verso, entitled The Freudian Slip. From loofa to felafel to Well, let Ms Mackris and her lawyer tell it their way. O'Reilly "suggested he would perform oral sex" on Ms Mackris and she would "perform fellatio on his 'big cock' but not complete the act", maybe to conserve his energies for further deployment of the little loofa or the felafel, though the lifespan of a felafel in a shower is surely limited in duration. After the exciting fa-fel-fell monologue and what to Ms Mackris' "repulsed" ear sounded like the hum of a vibrator and acoustic intimations of satisfactory climax O'Reilly launched into a discussion concerning how good he was during a recent appearance on "The Today Show".

Mind you, though O'Reilly may have thought he was on safe political ground with presumptively Israeli falafel, the word and indeed the snack is also of Arab origin.

Thank you Ms Mackris. It must have been just horrible for you, but it was in a good cause. You gave us a bright moment in a dark year.

[CanYoAssDigIt] Re: **************** In Memorium

*****

I do like a good fairy tale.  Some people count sheep at night, what I like to do is take some bit of "wisdom" I got through e-mail and count the things wrong with it.  When I get up to a couple of hundred, I drop off.  Thanks to this one, I'm going to sleep very well tonight.

Where to begin?  How about here - through a not very clever rhetorical device, the writer makes it appear that the Nazis and the Soviets were complicit in the same crimes.  The Soviets were, in fact, the primary victims of Nazi aggression, and the victors in the European War.  The United States played a bit part.  It is true for his own reasons and political gain Stalin carried out monstrous pogroms of his own.  And their allies, the United States, looked the other way, as long as there was no political advantage to make an issue of it.

In fact, the US was indifferent at best, hostile at worst to the plight of the European Jew, and were happy enough to help the Europeans solve their "Jewish Problem" by dumping them on the Palestinians.  Christian Europeans try to exterminate the Jews, Christian America didn't intervene, now Muslims get the blame for the whole affair.  Very slick.

The other main point I want to make is that Education is political.  I was educated in the US, and my tender sensitivities were never ruffled by knowledge of Thomas Jefferson's serial rapes of the slave Sally Hemmings; CIA covert assassination programs against democratically elected leaders all over the world; the US role in forcing China to accept opium addiction for a large percentage of its population - and on and on and on.

As I'm writing this, the teaching of evolution is under attack by religious fanatics all over this country - there are educators who are willing to back away from teaching this subject to buy themselves a little peace - and who could blame them? It's a thankless task, trying to drive a little unwanted learning into the heads of no-neck cretins while their parents are trying to remove you from your job.  I'll bet there are people on this very distribution that think that creation "science" out to be taught right next to the real thing in classrooms, or instead of it, but you get all holier-than-thou and self-righteous about the capitulation of the British in this instance.

Which brings me to the final point - the information about the specific incident that inspired the "In Memoriam" e-mail - is reported almost entirely incorrectly.

Here is the real story.

[CanYoAssDigIt] Re: [progressive] Bloomberg Would Flip Red States Blue

It's kind of amusing to see the way that people can't let an opportunity to slip by without bashing (or attempting to kill by a thousand cuts) Ralph Nader.

It's a bit like people saying "Albert Einstein never came up with that unified field theory, so he's the biggest fraud and numbskull ever to work in the field of physics" and everybody else piling on - "yes, I have nothing but contempt for Einstein."

"Have you heard that he was an egomaniac? And a womanizer!"

"Yeah, Einstein is worse that Hitler!"

And on and on and on.  Well, it was kind of amusing. Now it's really really tiresome.

Maybe if the Dems have both their own candidates and Bloomberg, their candidate can actually win, as they've demonstrated that they have no taste for fighting for what they earned.

No, Ralph Nader did that (like Palast, he doesn't care which white ruling class frat boy is in office, but he still has some regard for democratic principles) - but he couldn't seem to find any democrats who'd stand up for themselves.

Damn that Nader, worse than Satan!  But Bill made a video in which he said nice things about Hillary, it really opened my eyes up.

Like a dog to his vomit, a liberal returns to his folly.

3. Lumen - June 19, 2007

I would have considered voting for him in 2004, due to significant problems with both candidates. I don't think I will this time around. I think the Republicans would gain the most from a Bloomberg run. He has enough of his own money to wage a strong campaign, and I think he would be most likely to win large "Blue" states like NY (obviously) and CA.

6. Lumen - June 20, 2007

Correct you are, Anon. Bloomberg would not just be a Nader-esque spoiler. He spent $73 million of his own money to become mayor. If Bloomberg so desires, he could quite easily outspend both major party candidates even without receiving any donations. That makes the real question not how he effects the popular vote, but how he shifts the Electoral College. Bloomberg could only ever be considered a Republican in New York, and even there for only 6 of his 65 years. His social views will likely preclude him from drawing much support in most of the "Red" states, but not in "Blue" states that frequently elect socially liberal Republicans to statewide office (CA, MD, MA, NY, NJ, WA, etc.). A Bloomberg candidacy might damage the GOP if Giuliani gets the nomination, but otherwise Bloomberg will undoubtedly be bad for Democrats.

I tend to agree with him.
