I've finally achieved consistency in my life. Any person of average or above intelligence can predict what I will say next with unerring accuracy. And what I say will always be wrong.

[CanYoAssDigIt] Re: [progressive] Interesting Quotes

I think that if people believe something, they should just say it, and not do the appeal to authority thing by citing some bogus quote they found on the Internet.  There are two many of these to run down...

Look, if I invented a quote like this: John Kerry said "I am a poo poo head. All the swift boaters were right. I am a liar and a coward" - would you believe it?  No, the words aren't fancy enough, and you don't agree with the content.

But if somebody strings together some fancy words that are against the Federal Reserve, and say that Woodrow Wilson said them, well, that's entirely different, right?  Well, what if there is no reason to believe he ever said it, any more than the John Kerry "quote" I just manufactured?

Why not just learn to talk fancy and say "but the authority gained by my thorough study of logic and history, I believe...."

Here's a "quote" I never want to see again, but surely will over and over:

"Beware the leader who bangs the drums of war in order to whip the
citizenry into a patriotic fervor, for patriotism is indeed a double-edged
sword.  It both emboldens the blood, just it narrows the mind.  And when the
drums of war have reached a fever pitch and the blood boils with hate and
the mind has closed, the leader will have no need in seizing the rights of
the citizenry.  Rather, the citizenry, infused with fear and blinded by
patriotism, will offer up all of their rights unto the leader and gladly so.
How do I know?  For this is what I have done.  And I am Caesar."--Julius
Caesar.

For the rebuttal, see:  http://www.snopes.com/quotes/caesar.htm

Not that Snopes is always right. they accept the Herman Goering quote - contrary to some claims, he did say this as part of Nuremberg Trial testimony, but rather he supposedly said it to an American psychiatrist that interviewed him alone in his cell (with no witnesses), who reported the conversation (perhaps from notes) in a book that was published years later.

Ralph Keyes explains in Nice Guys Finish Seventh, his compendium of misattributed and false quotes, "Famous dead people make excellent commentators on current events." The dead do not reappear to challenge words assigned to them, an attribute much prized by those looking for convenient spokesmen to lend authority to their convictions. This "quote" called for a strong and respected military leader and statesman, hence Caesar was resurrected to give it voice.

Snopes also accepts the authenticity of one version of the Chief Seattle speech. An excellent article in the Seattle Weekly a few years back argues most persuasively that both versions are bogus.

Efforts to bring this to their attention failed.  The people that are hardest to persuade are people who know something to be true that isn't!

These quotes by people in positions to know are quite revealing of
the fact that we live in a world dominated by conspiracies among the
well-connected and powerful wealthy elite.

Feel free to add to the list.

"In politics, nothing happens by accident. If it happens, you can
bet it was planned that way." - Franklin D. Roosevelt

"Since I entered politics, I have chiefly had men's views confided
to me privately. Some of the biggest men in the United States —in
the fields of commerce and manufacturing—are afraid of somebody.
They know that there is a power somewhere so organized, so subtle,
so watchful, so interlocked, so complete, so pervasive, that they
had better not speak above their breath when they speak in
condemnation of it." - Woodrow Wilson

"A financial element in the large centers has owned the government
since the days of Andrew Jackson." - Franklin Roosevelt

"We are on the verge of a global transformation. All we need is the
right major crisis and the nations will accept the New World
Order." - David Rockefeller

"Today, America would be outraged if UN troops entered Los Angeles
to restore order. Tomorrow they will be grateful! This is especially
true if they were told that there was an outside threat from beyond,
whether real or promulgated, that threatened our very existence. It
is then that all people of the world will plead to deliver them from
this evil. The one thing every man fears is the unknown. When
presented with this scenario, individual rights will be willingly
relinquished for the guarantee of their well-being granted to them
by the world government." - Henry Kissinger (Bilderburg Conference
1991 Evians, France)

"Naturally the common people don't want war…but after all, it is the
leaders of the country who determine policy, and it is always a
simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy,
or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist
dictatorship…all you have to do is to tell them they are being
attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and
exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any
country." Herman Goering ( One of Hitler's top men, during the
Nuremberg Trials)

The individual is handicapped by coming face to face with a
conspiracy so monstrous he cannot believe it exists. - Edgar J
Hoover

We must strengthen the United Nations as a first step toward a World
Government, patterned after our Own Government with a legislature,
executive and judiciary and police. - Walter Cronkite

In 1913, Woodrow Wilson signed the Federal Reserve Act. A few years
later he wrote: I am a most unhappy man. I have unwittingly ruined
my country. A great industrial nation is controlled by its system of
credit. Our system of credit is concentrated. The growth of the
nation, therefore, and all our activities are in the hands of a few
men. We have come to be one of the worst ruled, one of the most
completely controlled and dominated Governments in the civilized
world no longer a Government by free opinion, no longer a Government
by conviction and the vote of the majority, but a Government by the
opinion and duress of a small group of dominant men. - Woodrow
Wilson

By the time you become the leader of a country, someone else makes
all the decisions. You may find you can get away with Virtual
Presidents, Virtual Prime Ministers, and Virtual Everything. - Bill
Clinton

The easiest way to gain control of the population is to carry out
acts of terror. The public will clamor for such laws if the personal
security is threatened. - Joseph Stalin

The real rulers of Washington are Invisible and exercise power from
behind the scenes. - Justice Felix Frankfurter - US Supreme Court
Justice

The real menace of our Republic is the invisible Government which
like a giant Octopus, sprawls its slimy legs over our cities,
states, and nation. - John F. Hylan - Mayor NYC 1918-1925

The real truth of the matter is, as you and I know that a financial
element in the large centers has OWNED the Government of the U.S.
since the days of Andrew Jackson." (History points to the last truly
honorable and incorruptible American President as "Old Hickory") -
FDR to Col. E. Mandell House 11/21/1933

"Give me control of a Nation's money and I care not who makes the
laws." - Mayer Amschel Bauer (Rothschild)

"The Trilateralist Commission is international ...(and)...is
intended to be the vehicle for multinational consolidation of the
commercial and banking interests by seizing CONTROL of the political
government of the United States. The Trilateralist Commission
represents a skillful, coordinated effort to seize COTROL and
consolidate the four centers of power: Political - Monetary -
Intellectual - and Ecclesiastical." - Barry Goldwater , U.S. Senator
AZ. "With No Apologies"

"We shall have World Government. Whether or not we like it. The only
Question is whether World Government will be achieved by conquest or
consent." - James Paul Warburg , Foreign agent for the Rothschild
dynasty - Major Player in the Federal Reserve act scam / Feb. 17,
1950 speaking before the U.S. Senate.

"We are grateful to the Washington Post, the NY Times, Time
Magazine, and other great publications whose directors have attended
our meetings, and respected their promises of discretion for almost
40 years. It would have been impossible for us to develop OUR PLAN
for the world if we had been subjected to the lights of publicity
during those years. But, the world is now more sophisticated and
prepared to march towards a World Government. The supranational
sovereignty of an intellectual ELITE and World Bankers is surely
preferable to the national auto - determination practiced in past
centuries." - David Rockefeller CFR Kingpin, Founder of the
Trilateral Commission, NOW Godfather / June 1991

"The Technetronic era involves the gradual appearance of a more
CONTROLLED society. Such a society would be dominated by ELITE,
unrestrained by traditional values." - Zbigniew Brezhinsky , Advisor
to 5 U.S. Presidents - Executive Director Trilateral
Commission. "Between two Ages"

"It is well enough that people of the nation do not understand our
Banking and Monetary system, for if they did, I believe there would
be a Revolution before tomorrow morning." - Henry Ford

"We can't be so fixated on our desire to preserve the rights of
ordinary Americans" - Bill Clinton 1993

"The interests behind the Bush Administration, such as the CFR, the
Trilateral Commission – founded by Brzezinski for David Rockefeller –
and the Bilderberg Group have prepared for and are now moving to
implement open world dictatorship within the next five years." - Dr.
Johannes Koeppl – former official of the German Ministry for Defense
and adviser to NATO.

"We are on the verge of a Global transformation. All we need is the
right major crisis and the nations will accept the New World

"Democracy tends to ignore, even deny, threats to its existence
because it loathes doing what is needed to counter them," explained
Revel. "It awakens only when the danger becomes deadly, imminent,
and evident. By then, either there is too little time left for it to
save itself, or the price of survival has become crushingly high." -
Jean Francois Revel

"For more than a century, ideological extremists at either end of
the political spectrum have seized upon well-publicized incidents to
attack the Rockefeller family for the inordinate influence they
claim we wield over American political and economic institutions.
Some even believe we are part of a secret cabal working against the
best interests of the United States, characterizing my family and me
as 'internationalists' and of conspiring with others around the
world to build a more integrated global political and economic
structure - one world, if you will. If that's the charge, I stand
guilty, and I am proud of it." - David Rockefeller, Memoirs , 2002

"Stop throwing the Constitution in my face! It's just a [expletive
deleted] piece of paper!" - George Bush

"Every time we do something, you tell me America will do this and
will do that . . . I want to tell you something very clear: Don't
worry about American pressure on Israel . We, the Jewish people,
control America , and the Americans know it." - Ariel Sharon ,
October 3, 2001

"I came to America because of the great, great freedom which I heard
existed in this country. I made a mistake in selecting America as a
land of freedom, a mistake I cannot repair in the balance of my
lifetime." - Albert Einstein, 1947

"We have come to be one of the worst ruled, one of the most
completely controlled and dominated Governments in the world - no
longer a Government of free opinion, no longer a Government by
conviction and vote of the majority, but a Government by the opinion
and duress of small groups of dominant men." - Woodrow Wilson [U.S.
President during World War I]

"The U.S. must carry out some act somewhere in the world which shows
its determination to continue to be a world power." - Henry
Kissinger , post-Vietnam blues, as quoted in The Washington Post,
April 1975

"I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our
liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow
private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by
inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will
grow up around [the banks] will deprive the people of all property
until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers
conquered. The issuing power should be taken from the banks and
restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs." -- Thomas
Jefferson
