[CanYoAssDigIt] Re: [OregonDems_etc] George Seldes talks fascism and corporatism

Let's try to make sure we remain in the reality-based community. Prescott Bush was neither a Nazi nor a Nazi sympathiser. He did business with Nazis long after he should have stopped, but that puts him in the company of many other capitalists and politicians.

Averill Harriman, for example, a Democratic politician served in the Administration of Harry Truman (a little monster much admired and loved by both Democrats and Republicans today) and Allen Dulles, who served in both Democratic (Truman and Kennedy) and Republican (Eisenhower) regimes.

It's good to bring these things to light, but unfortunately, when you start digging, you start finding both red and blue roots in the muck.

I should mention that Ralph "as bad as Hitler" Nader is not and has never been a member of the Nazi Party, nor has he ever financed Nazis or recycled Nazis into the space program or intelligence on border of the Soviet Empire.

One of my "heroes" has long been George Seldes…..possibly the GREATEST "muckraker" in modern history….He interviewed the Chancellor of Germany after World War I and the US Government saw fit to censor the interview….many people think if it hadn't been censored that World War II could have been avoided….He was kicked out of the Soviet Union after he interviewed Stalin and during Mussolini's rise of modern fascism in Italy he had to be smuggled out in the trunk of a car to avoid being shot. He wrote a wonderful piece called "Facts and Fascism" that clearly points out the connection with fascism and corporatism even IN THE US….and while the US media reported about it in other countries, basically the people running the US media were corporatists/fascists themselves…He also individually lists how to recognize fascism…and it is amazing how closely the things he wrote in 1943 haven't changed in all that time….It isn't a coincidence that it was a Bush that help fund the Nazis…..

"Facts and Fascism"

Some years back Tim Robbins and Quinton Terrintino did a documentary about his life and named it after his book "Tell the Truth and RUN"….

People that tell the truth under personal risk like he and Socrates have ALWAYS been my "heroes"….

[CanYoAssDigIt] Re: [progressive] A woman that paints portraits of our fallen soldiers and then sends it to their families. Please pass on.

I suppose it's easier to paint portraits of just the Americans who are dying there than to paint pictures of the victims of the aggression, since over a million Iraqis have died thanks to the Bush/Clinton devotion to freedom - free access to Iraqi resources, that is.

If the artist did get into all that political "crap" she might start becoming active in casues that would mean she would no longer have to paint any more of these portraits.

Please pass this on.

Best,

Matt

Dear Folks,

This feed portrays a woman from Utah who paints those soldiers that have died in Iraq. She does it out of the kindness of her own heart and sends the portrait to the grieving families left behind.  Her name is Josiah Handcock and one thing striking that she says of politics that she does not "get into all of that crap" and that she just "loves freedom"  Please pass this on since I feel she deserves the this praise since she does not accept one dime from a soldier's family.

Best,

Mary!

[CanYoAssDigIt] Re: [Presidents-In-Drag] Digest Number 161

would have worked much better with Bush. I can't believe that people
keep pushing this crap, particularly on lists that are supposed to be
funny, like that sporkiatric group. it was over run by toothless
rednecks.

It's like if they asked people "who's worse, hitler or the taco bell
dog" and everybody south of the mason dixon line agreed that the taco
bell dog was worse, because he might have crossed the border
illegally.

I don't have time for such stupidity.

[CanYoAssDigIt] we love justice!!!

Paul Craig Roberts, formerly of the Reagan treasury department, once
again takes aim on Bush's America:

"Many Americans are unconcerned that the US government in behalf of an
undeclared agenda has invaded two countries, killed hundreds of
thousands of foreign civilians, produced 4 million Iraqi refugees,
rejected the Geneva Conventions and reverted to medieval torture
dungeons. It does not trouble them that their government blocked
ceasefires and UN resolutions so that Israel could bomb and murder
Lebanese civilians and destroy the country's infrastructure."

First I want to say to Mr. Smartypants PCR – where were you when the
criminal Reagan regime was slaughtering tens of thousands in Central
America?

Next, I want to say, who says America no longer has respect for the
rule of law? Paris Hilton is in jail, isn't she? And aren't we all
getting our jollies at that? Come on! Things have never been better!

[CanYoAssDigIt] The Return of Johnnie TV!

I got up this morning... it was just another ordinary day... and I wasn't feeling great.

And then what happened????  I went to YouTube and saw a half dozen new vids from JohnnieTV! Talk about a mood elevator!

I've been seeing more and more of Johnnie TVs tropes on YouTube - the snooty marketer Nalts was doing cards the other day, for example.

Now the original is BACK, his tee-shirt is black, it's an all out pleasure attack!

Shirts on, shirts off!

Here's a good start on the new entertainment!

[CanYoAssDigIt] Re: [progressive] He did nothing wrong!

the gray old lady spreads em for ghouly Giuliani.  It sort of along the lines of seeing how damn evil those Iraqis are for acts of total warfare, like dragging the corpses of american mercinaries through the streets (here we save that for blacks and gays) while recognizing the inherent virtue in the act of invading a country, killing hundreds of thousands of men, women and children, and stealing everything of value that they have.

On 6/23/07, NT <annefrank1210@yahoo.com > wrote:

Daily Howler
David Corn - FRIDAY, JUNE 22, 2007

PIMP V. SLIME: In the past two days, the New York Times has run a remarkable pair of candidate stories. One of these news reports beats the bushes, looking for ways to suggest that John Edwards has been misbehaving. The other report beats the bushes too—to help us see how vastly decent Saint Giuliani really is.

Today's front-pager concerns Slick Edwards. Leslie Wayne is deeply troubled by the way the Dem has conducted himself in the past several years. Eventually, though, we end up with this. Uh-oh! He did nothing wrong!
WAYNE (6/22/07): Nonprofit groups can engage in political activities and not endanger their tax-exempt status so long as those activities are not its primary purpose. But the line between a bona fide charity and a political campaign is often fuzzy, said Marcus S. Owens, a Washington lawyer who headed the Internal Revenue Service division that oversees nonprofit agencies.

''I can't say that what Mr. Edwards did was wrong,'' Mr. Owens said. ''But he was working right up to the line. Who knows whether he stepped or stumbled over it. But he was close enough that if a wind was blowing hard, he'd fall over it.''
Edwards didn't do anything wrong! But we get this statement in the next-to-last paragraph, after 1700 words of insinuation. By the way, you should always be suspicious of formulations about "working right up to the line." Guess what, readers? Legislatures draw legal lines so citizens will know where their efforts must stop. When you drive 65 in your car, you're "working right up to the line."

Wayne spent a good deal of time insinuating that Edwards is slick.

By contrast, Russ Buettner went to heroic lengths in yesterday's Times to show us how loyal that Saint Rudy is. We don't know if we've ever seen a news report which works so hard—with such feeble old "evidence"—to prove a candidate's strength of character. And what is this article really about? Early on, Buettner works us:
BUETTNER (6/21/07): Mr. Giuliani's vision of loyalty is perhaps instructive as he pursues the Republican nomination for president. His practice has been to promote and defend his people, even when they become the subjects of intense criticism, like Bernard B. Kerik, his police commissioner when Mr. Giuliani was mayor of New York.
