[ItsAllAboutMeMan] Re: Egyptian activists are asking for your help

Hey, instead of encouraging us to sign useless online petitions, why don't you get your buddy Obama to actually grow a spine and stand up for democracy in the middle east?

Oh, I forgot - Obama didn't pay any attention to what any of us said when your stupid org was part of his campaign - why would he listen to you or us now?  Is that gasbag phony responsive to anybody except corporations and the right wing?

And you're a right sorry bunch, a group I can't see any reason for you to exist. Congratulations on your reinvention, and preserving your jobs, but cripes. I wasted time on you during the campaign, I'm wasting time on you right now, and I think I'm pretty much done with doing that.

Pro-democracy activists in Egypt have asked us to stand with them

Sign the Petition

Dear Matt,

Change.org members in Egypt are asking all of us to support them.

Late on Saturday night, two pro-Democracy activists -- a young man and a young woman who've asked that we not use their names out of fear of imprisonment and torture -- started a petition on Change.org, dictating the text to an ally over a phone line because the government has shut down the internet throughout the country.

These Egyptians -- activists participating in what is being called the "January 25 Movement" -- believe we're at a possible tipping point within the country. The Egyptian army has is siding with the protesters, the President has already been forced to dismiss his entire cabinet, and there are unconfirmed reports that some members of the ruling family are leaving the country.

These Egyptian activists believe that a flood of international support right now can help to change the course of Egypt's history for decades to come.

This is extremely urgent -- please don't wait to take action. Click here now to add your name to this critical petition for democracy started by these two Egyptian activists on behalf of the January 25 Movement:

Thanks for taking action today,

Patrick and the Change.org Team

P.S. Here's the text of the petition: (You can see the original version in Arabic here.)

On January 25, we the people of Egypt took to the streets to demand our rights!

We are not unified by one party, class or religion: we are not Muslim and we are not Christian, we are not rich and we are not poor - we are the multifaceted people of Egypt - Muslims and Christians and Egyptians of all classes.

We demand our civil, political and human rights.

We demand the immediate resignation of the president and parliament.

We demand a new constitution.

We demand free and fair elections.

We demand the complete and total release of all political prisoners and detainees.

We demand the return of open access to all communication networks.

We demand that the police stop shooting at us, stop their brutality and stop their attacks on journalists.

We are the January 25 movement, and we are not going to stop until our demands are met!

We call on Egyptians and our international supporters to sign this petition of support, which will be sent to Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, officials in the interior and foreign ministries, and Egyptian embassies all over the world.

[ItsAllAboutMeMan] Useless Flavorwire site

I tried multiple times to post on this page:

But it never stuck, the closest I could get was this:

Look, Flavorwire, why hasn't my post shown up? Was it too embarrassing to you that you overlooked Blood Paradise, and three of their songs are better than anything on this list?

so I tried again (following) but still nothing. What are they afraid of?  Why won't they publish the links? Are they part of the vast conspiracy, to hold down Blood Paradise and advance that wife of a billionaire MIA?  Thanks to my blog, my free speech rights aren't totally abridged.  Listen to the music, and make up your own mind, while you still can!

*******

well, flavorwire, you posted my post about my post, so I'll try again.  I don't think Blood Paradise would really want to be on your list, as you are really kind of snarky and dismissive about the whole idea of politically relevant music (you seem to prefer it when young men with long hair moan inarticulately about having problems) but if your site was any good, they'd be on it. I present, in all it's glory, my original post:

[ItsAllAboutMeMan] Re: Announcing Roadmap to Progress: A State of the Union Event

Hey Sam,

Thanks for the update. I've been very discouraged about the 3rd Bush term that we're (barely) surviving - it looks like Obama is preparing to dismantle crucial parts of the country in ways that Bush failed to, just as Clinton won major battles in the war on poor people and labor that Reagan lost (see, for example, Mike Whitney's article "the most business friendly president ever?" at http://counterpunch.org/whitney01242011.html)

Anyway, if your hiphop and environmental people have any ideas about how we can stop the current Republican president from dismantling our social security safety net and business regulation (as well as continuing his war on world stability, the environment, and most everything that we care about, it seems) and how we can elect somebody who's really going to look out for the people (like McKinney, Nader, or Kucinich) I'll be there!

Matt

PS Tell Sean Gardner that it's not very damn likely he has a better record collection than I do.  I'll put my record collection up against his any time.

Join the Conversation on Facebook

Hi Matt. As the country looks forward to President Obama's State of the Union Address tomorrow, the League is ready to join the conversation with our most exciting online party yet: Roadmap to Progress: The 2011 State of the Union (#BarackTalk on Twitter). Tomorrow night at 8:15pm, the League will broadcast live from the New Organizing Institute's headquarters in D.C., where we've assembled a panel of cultural and political leaders - including Chuck Creekmur, the founder of AllHipHop.com, and Jessy Tolkan, environmental movement guru - to discuss the President's Speech before it happens and come back after the fact for an open dialog about the next two years of politics. With your help, we can make this the kickoff of our 2011 and 2012 organizing.

This is our chance to contextualize modern political discourse for the Millennial Generation and start talking about the 2012 Presidential Election right now. Tomorrow, Obama addresses the Nation. And we would love to have you involved in our online watch party. 36 Hours Out, still so much to do:

  1. RSVP on Facebook and let us know you'll be there.
  2. Catch Biko @ 3:30 Eastern this afternoon on MSNBC, where he'll be promoting Roadmap to Progress with Chuck Creekmur from AllHipHop.
  3. Participate tomorrow night at youngvoterlive.com and #BarackTalk on Twitter.
  4. In D.C.? RSVP for our afterparty, hosted by Rock the Vote!

From Texas to Maine, California to Brooklyn, the League of Young Voters Education Fund is ready to make 2011 our biggest year of volunteer based activism and artistic organizing yet. We are honored to have you involved and hope you'll celebrate our great Union together, tomorrow.

peace

Sam Patton

[ItsAllAboutMeMan] Re: Announcing my retirement.

Yes, I'm leaving the creative side of the business, and getting into the business side of the business. It's going to be hard on my fans (both of them) but they'll forget all about me when they hear the artists I'll be presenting on Egregious Records.

Take, for example, my latest discover, The Jazzmatics:

http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=1138437

One song is already tearing up the charts:

Charts 1 song is in the charts today. more

13 Jazzmatics

Stations 1 user station.

play lo-fi play hi-fi   shuffle & play (random mode)
Jazz General
63 songs | 58 bands | add to favorite stations
added "13 Jazzmatics"

My boys are so prolific, they have a great many songs yet without names, they are just numbered.  They will be taking suggestions from audience members.

Anyway, I have to give credit to Peggy Cambell for her good taste in music, even if her spelling is kind of pathetic. I thought pretty much everybody knew that there's a "p" in the name "Cam[p]bell."

By the way, I've hardly gotten settled into retirement, and what do you know, I hear from Pusman, he wants me to get involved in some kind of crazy scheme, can you believe that shit?

[ItsAllAboutMeMan] Are you having a zodiac-related identity crisis?

Nonsense on Public Radio, and the correct response:

Maybe you are a firm believer in astrology, or maybe you only have a faint sense of the zodiac sign you were born into, but either way there has been buzz this week that it might be all changing.
Parke Kunkle, of the Minnesota Planetarium Society, told the Star Tribune this week that we should be using the following astrological signs, based on the stars' current alignment. Has your sign "changed"? Do you care?

Capricorn: Jan. 20-Feb. 16.
Aquarius: Feb. 16-March 11.
Pisces: March 11-April 18.
Aries: April 18-May 13.
Taurus: May 13-June 21.
Gemini: June 21-July 20.
Cancer: July 20-Aug. 10.
Leo: Aug. 10-Sept. 16.
Virgo: Sept. 16-Oct. 30.
Libra: Oct. 30-Nov. 23.
Scorpio: Nov. 23-29.
Ophiuchus:* Nov. 29-Dec. 17.
Sagittarius: Dec. 17-Jan. 20.

What, in the past, has your astrological sign been?

Virgo

It's a well known fact that all Virgos are skeptics about Astrology. Not a single Virgo has ever believed in Astrology, and that described me as well. I eschew all superstition. Science, however, has revealed to me time and again the validity of Triskaidekaphilia, and a 13 sign Zodiac intrigues.
How, if at all, might you be affected personally or professionally by a change to the Zodiac?
It's a well known fact that all Leos are gullible fools who subscribe to Astrology and every other sort of nonsense devised by man. Since I am now a Leo, I must believe in Astrology with all my heart and soul.  It will be difficult, but it must be done. I must be true to myself, after all.

Who are the winners and losers in regards to these changes (who can you see benefiting, and who can you see being negatively affected)?

I think that my friend (and the person who introduced me to Triskaidekaphilia) Lulina will be pleased.  I believe she saw my former skepticism as a sort of moral failing, or at the very least, a real conversation stopper.  Now we can start over on an entirely new footing.  On the other hand, I have no doubt that the Skeptics will be furious about this, they will rant and shout and wave coathangers in my face, and call me a Nazi and a Communist, and say that I am a dupe, or I was a federal agent all along.
How much stock do you generally put in astrology?
See above. Previously none, now I not only put stock in it, I put the entire soup in - carrots, potatoes, tomatoes - the whole nine yards.

Check out your new sign's horoscope for today. (Note! The dates are not reflective of the changes, so just look at the name of the sign.) Is it relevant to your life and if so, how?

As a Virgo, I find it to be nonsense.  As a former Virgo, now a Leo, I find today's horoscope for Leo to be spot on, amazing in its insight and accuracy

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22): Take the time to find the right idea before you start to work. You'll be brilliant when you commit yourself to brainstorming.

What do you do for work?

Musician and owner of an independent music label

How do you describe your race or ethnicity?
Off-white

[ItsAllAboutMeMan] Free music, and remember, you get what you pay for

There's a small handful of people who ask me every once in a while what I'm currently doing musically.

And then there's you!

I stated this song out yesterday on the piano, finished it today on the computer.

http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=10070276

About the song
The first song I wrote on the piano. Well, I started it on the piano, the piano part has been mostly obscured. This song above all demonstrates I have my finger on the pulse - these kids are going to boogie on down to the ground when they hear my mastery of the latest hip now happening dance beats. Even a little discreet use of Autotune. Yeah, baby.

[ItsAllAboutMeMan] Have an Egregious and Mighty Christmas!

As I threatened a couple of days ago, I have uploaded several tracks from the Egregious Tabernacle Choir onto this soundclick site:

www.soundclick.com/EgregiousChristmasSongs

Just scroll down to the end of the list, or better yet, hit play all, and "enjoy" the other recordings as well.

A reminder, before the holidays fade into the rear view mirror of time, you can still enjoy Christmas 84. I will be taking it down shortly - hopefully by next Christmas there will be a new official release (from me) from the original master tapes:

www.soundclick.com/Christmas84

I would be even more of a failure as a human being than I already am if I did not mention a great collection of Christmas songs recorded this year in Grays Harbor, and ready for download and enjoyment from this site:

http://mightykitten.com

This is indeed the most wonderful time of the year!
