He makes some really good points, and kudos to him for his insights and his expert way with words. I wasn't surprised to find when I poked around his blog a bit that he isn't just some random nut on a soapbox, he's a writer by profession.
However, despite his disclaimers, I do think there is some prejudice at work in his world view, when he says things like this: "(Although Leviticus is part of the Torah, I don't see too many Leviticans among the Jews, who in my experience see the Torah as a jumping off point to engage the world rather than a defense against it.)"
In fact, there are fundamentalists in Christianity, Islam, and Judaism (and I'd guess research would turn up fundamentalist Buddhism and Hinduism too). The things he mentions are, in fact, exactly the preoccupation of many Orthodox Jews. I think you could also say the majority of Christians and Muslims aren't Leviticans, either - most also see their holy books as a jumping off point to engage the world rather than a defense against it.
Unfortunately, the fundamentalist minority has disproportionate power in certain key locations. If the author doesn't recognize that the majority of people in Israel are held hostage by a minority of extremists, just as we are in the United States by Christian Fundamentalists, and Iran is by Islamic Fundamentalists, he just hasn't been paying attention.
