[ItsAllAboutMeMan] Re: [progressive] NY Gov Eliot Spitzer should NOT resign!

The Republican sex scandals of late gave the Dems so much fun, it seems kind of churlish to demand that Republicans throw their own to the wolves, but have a whole different set of standards for their own.

Spitzer may have not been convicted of anything (yet) but he has already adopted a wide stance and issued the standard non-apology apology.

A very intelligent poster to this list (me) wrote back in Oct 6, 2006 (at 12:47 AM, to get real specific), " there is no shortage of sex scandals among Democrats - Many of them are horndogs too, drunk on booze and power. Enjoy this while you can, it will be cutting the other way soon enough."

I am surprised that it took until 2008 for my prophesy (which was going out on a limb about as far as if I  predicted a major earthquake somewhere in the world in the next decade, or a political assassination in Pakistan) to come true.

At the time of my posting, there was some quibbling about sex scandals not really being scandals if there aren't any children involved.  C'mon, is anybody going to let of a right wing evangelist getting a meth enema just because the prostitute who gave it to him was an adult? Are the Republicans going to let go of this one?

If dems are so moved, they can rally around Spitzer all they want.  They will give up the moral high ground they have over republicans - they can no longer call them hypocrats (well, they will anyway, but the republicans will just say right back, in similar school yard fashion, "I'm made of rubber and you're made of glue, everything you say bounces off of me and sticks to you."

Here's the entire post I wrote:

Subject: Re: Lieberman Loves Him Some Hastert

Well, let's try to keep a little perspective on this.  16-year-olds
aren't children, they're adolescents. They are regarded as able to
operate as adults in certain arenas; they can be licensed to drive
automobiles, and even to marry in some places.

The whole page thing is extremely useful to the scions of
well-connected families to learn how to advance in the corrupt and
unwholesome environment of politics.  There have been enough page
scandals that I never would send any offspring of mine into this
environment, but if I wanted the fruit of my loins to grow up to be
Monica Lewinsky or Steve Gobie, I couldn't think if a better training
ground.

If sane people made the rules, the tradition of pages would have been
abolished decades or centuries ago, but these things are run by people
like Paris Hilton's parents, and while they may profess to be shocked,
I tell you, shocked that these things are going on in Babylon on the
Potomac, they don't really have much reason to be.

I misremembered that Steve Gobie was a page, but upon reviewing Barney
Frank's Wikipedia page, I see that he wasn't.  But still, this was a
pretty unsavory jam Frank got himself into, and survived by standing
his ground.  Can you blame the Republicans for circling the wagons -
would you want to be without Barney Frank?  At any rate, there is no
shortage of sex scandals among Democrats - Many of them are horndogs
too, drunk on booze and power. Enjoy this while you can, it will be
cutting the other way soon enough.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barney_Frank

In 1990, the House voted to reprimand Frank when it was revealed that
Steve Gobie, a male prostitute that Rep. Frank had befriended after
hiring him through a personal advertisement, had conducted a
prostitution ring from Frank's apartment when he was not at home.
Frank had dismissed Gobie earlier that year after learning of Gobie's
activities.

The Boston Globe, among others, called on Frank to resign, but he
refused. The House Ethics Committee recommended Frank be reprimanded
because he "reflected discredit upon the House" by using his
congressional office to fix 33 of Gobie's parking tickets. Attempts to
expel or censure Frank failed; instead the House voted 408-18 to
reprimand him. This condemnation was not reflected in Frank's
district, where he won re-election in 1990 with 66 percent of the
vote, and has won by larger margins ever since.

Some of my fellow  Democrats seem to eat their own.
These allegations are exactly that. Unsubstantiated allegations.
Governor Spitzer has not been charged with any crime.
Ar we guilty till proven innocent?

As long as government money wasn't used, Governor Spitzer's private life is exactly that, Private!
Was the prostitute named Monica? Are we on a gossip fueled witch hunt?
Prostitution is a victimless crime!

I am extremely disapointed that banks are reporting fund transfers, it is the customer's own money to do with as he or she chooses, and not the concern of the "Big Brother" Banks!!!!!!!!!

I hope that Eliot Spitzer is able to remain in office. New York State needs him.
