1-) In fact, Obama said that he would allow offshore drilling in a debate with McCain.

I missed that partucular example of Obama saying he was going to do exactly what he went on to do. There are many others, of course. The faithful point to examples where he said he would do something else. Obama, supposedly a different kind of politician, is very much in the tradition, saying whatever people want to hear at the moment, and letting people think they are what the people want them to be.  I just got this email an hour ago, they seemed to think they had a promise from Obama:

Reminder: Stop Offshore Drilling NOW

Dear Matt,

Last week, President Obama announced his proposal to expand offshore drilling. Despite his previous statement that he would "keep in place the [offshore drilling] moratorium in Florida and around the country," he is now willing to sacrifice the oceans in the name of sub-par climate change legislation.

Remind Obama that a healthy planet includes healthy oceans, free from the threat of oil spills.

Offshore drilling has no place in our vision of a clean energy future. Expanded offshore drilling threatens marine habitats and contributes to carbon dioxide emissions.

However, clean energy alternatives, like offshore wind, provide three times as many jobs as traditional fossil fuel production, with the added benefit of a smaller impact on our environment.

Tell Obama that he should focus on clean energy alternatives instead of gambling with the oceans' future »

It`s never the end of the world... until it is.  The hard part is deciding what the beginning of the end looks like, and trying to act on what you think you`ve discovered.
